Tuning question

So I buy a Nissan Nismo Z, take it into the tuning garage where you really cant upgrade anything aside from tires and turbo. I upgrade the turbo. Now after doing this, do I need to go and actually tune anything in the car, such as the gear ratios?

Also, I find it odd that in the gear ratio tuning section, in max power section at the bottom right it says 198mph, but when I race the car it goes much faster than that. What's the deal with that?

You mean 198MPH on the slider and the graph at top, or did you set the slider and then adjust the gear ratios so the speed next to the graph changes while the speed on the slider did not? If you didn't custom tune the transmission then you shouldn't be seeing anything like the sort though, are you using MPH or KMH on screen? Some cockpit views show only KMH even if your settings are all MPH.

You dont "need" to tune anything, if you want to be able to compete with the best driver online you'll need to change suspension settings, aero, lsd and brake ratio.

There's no setup already done for it out there yet so you just gotta tune it with what you got here. There's some sticky on the tuning forum that might help you get started if you dont know where to start.

Oh and dont forget to do an oil change, that will probably give 20-30 more HP.

Good question about MPH and KPH. I know in the transmission tuning it says MPH, and I think that while racing Im look at the bottom right, the HUD, which I thought was MPH as well. It should be anyway.

Ok got it, I just wasnt sure if I add more power to a car, do the gear ratios need to be adjusted accordingly to get the most out of the car. I was kind of hoping the game takes care of it for me since I dont know the first thing about what any of that should be set to.

now's a good time to learn :D

typically you'll want to adjust you gear ratios on a track to track basis so that you almost top out (rpms) in your highest gear on the longest straight.

you can get into a lot more detail than that if you so choose but that would be a good start.
