Tuning Settings

Hi there, Ive been playing GT3 for a while now, I'm about 40% complete without doing any of the arcade races. One thing i am batteling to understand is the settings. I understand the gear ratios, but when it comes to downforce and LCD settings i'm not sure what i am doing.

I am currently driving the Penzoil nismo (Big yellow Beast).

Some assistance would be highly appreciated.

LSD Settings are still a bit of a black art to me, but down force is relatively easy to understand.

As you increase the dowforce (larger number) you put more pressure on the tires, thereby increasing grip. With more grip comes better cornering and less tire slip.

The side effects are that you speed up your tire wear. More pressure means more friction. And additional side effect is that you lose top speed. Downforce is created by using air to push down your car, so you basicaly obstruct air movement over the car.

It is a delicate balance between the two (top speed, grip) to get the car where you like it.

Hope this helps. To add one more note, take a search through the settings forum for "Skyline settings". This will likely produce a number of set-ups for the Pennzoil car.

Adjusting your LSD settings will help out in powering out of turns and overall over-understeer handling characteristics. It also can be adjusted to help stability while cornering, braking, and initial acceleration.

I happen to drive my Imprezas more so I'm more tuned into tuning AWD LSD.

Understanding how tire slippage, slip angle, camber, suspension setup will help you get the better LSD setting.

Ask more questions, that way we can help out zero in on your LSD setting.

Hi, clayton, and welcome to GTPlanet.

I'm moving this to the Settings and Tuning board for better results. If you search this particular board for posts by a guy named sukerkin, you will find a selection of excellent links he's provided to sites giving the scientific/engineering explanations behind the settings used in GT3.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reference Duke :) - I popped in to see if I could offer any help and ... hey ... I already did !

{saunters off into the sunset whistling a happy tune, self-satisfiedly murmuring to himself "My work here is done" :D}

You guys have been or great help to me thank you very much.

Last night i tuned my Nismo, and in most cases, especially midfield, I’m lapping 2 + seconds faster. It took me around 2 hours to get it just right, but what a great feeling when I did.

I was able to compete in pro league races where before I was WAY out of the running.

I have now realized how much fun GT3 can really be, a close race is by far more enjoyable than winning by 30+ seconds.

👍 👍 👍
Way to go, Claytonb! Good to another person figuring out that you can get a lot more out of this game besides getting to 100% as quickly as possible. By all means, join in the discussions, ask and answer some good questions. There's a lot to be learned here all the time. I also recommend the GTP Weekly Series over on the Online Racing board. boombexus is the coordinator and he's one fast guy who's willing to help.
