Turbo on 240SX

Has anyone ever tried putting a turbo kit on a 1996-1998 240SX? I seen several kits on the internet..

I was just curious if its worth the money, because 1997-1998 240SX will cost around 12-16G and then turbo kit will cost around 4G.

There's another long thread on whether to turbo a normally non-turbo car, and the end result is this:

Turbo kits are the way to go, especially if you're on a budget. They don't over do the boost pressure, they should have everything you need, and usually work (as opposed to scrapping some parts together yourself).

So for 16-20K, is a turbo 240SX worth it? Yes. Just do your homework on buying the used 240SX and on who makes the turbo kit. The 'SX is a great platform to start from. :)

i am debating between 240 sx and 328is and still not sure which one to get.

i know much more about BMWs then I do about Nissans but I always wanted a 240SX :)

Neither is an easy choice. Wish I had such tough decisions. :D But it depends on what you're trying to do for a car. IMO, the 240SX (tuned) will be more of a sports car, a good deal more aggressive (and, for me, fun). Whereas the 328is (also tuned) will be nice, but certainly more cosseting and comfortable...and in the end a better-built car, but perhaps less "fun".

If you want more info, go to the forums at www.freshalloy.com and SEARCH through the Advanced 240SX topics. I've been researching this myself, and have tentatively decided on the F-Max Stage One kit. Others S14 kits would be the XS Engineering, the NSport, and the GReddy one allegedly in the works... I'm a little biased, but I say go with the Nissan!!! :D

The 240 is more of a "Cult Car", like the Trueno and WRX. If you're gonna get a 240, don't forget to change your badge to "Silvia". :D

OK, so you were kidding then? Fair enough. If you didn't buy it in Japan, it ain't a Silvia. Just like the Accord Type-R I saw the other day...

Wouldnt u be better of getting the SR20DET which u can work it up pretty hard. With an Air Filter, decent sized Intercooler and boosted up stock turbo the car can run high 12s and low 13s.

That's certainly an option, and many 240 owners are doing it, but I'm a bit nervous spend that much $$$ on an engine whose history I'll never really know... :odd:

My Car!

USAF RACER:

A Slivia is practialy a family car here. though I have seen a couple of 300hp-450hp+ TRUE Silvia here.
Go with a RB instead of a SR I personnally think that the RB is a harder working engine. But see me look like a dumbass in " What do you drive" a previous post.

I'd love to cram an RB in there! There's a few practical problems for me though. I live in the Canadian boonies, and would have to go to a long ways to find a shop to do the engine bay chopping to get it in there (it's not drop-in like the SR). Also RB's are harder to find and get parts for, and they're lots more $$$$. If I had the cash and the help, I'd probably go for it though... :D

Also, my "If you didn't buy it in Japan" comment was a reference to the common practice of 'upgrading' cars by re-badging them. ie "Look, it only cost me $10 to upgrade my Integra LS to a Type-R!"
