Most of us already know that using a stage 3 turbo will not always result in lower lap times, but there are a small percentage of cars that are faster with stage 2 turbos. I have even seen at least one car (cant remember which and why i made this post) that has a more pp using a stage 1 turbo than a stage 2 or 3! an example of what im talking about would be the "Mini Marcos GT '70" using a stage 2.

i have probably missed some of the cars earlier on in the game that i have tuned b/c i simply bought the most expensive part without even bothering to compare the other turbo options. and now with pp in the game it is even easier to determine which is better

i would love to know the cars that have higher pp using a stage 1 or 2 turbo than a stage 3. anyone know of more? i will be updating this thread a i find/remember more.

I noticed this on the Fiat 500 (new one) that a stage 2 turbo gives same power as stage 3, but the stage 2 has more torque and has a better power band for that car.

What really matters beyond all of this is the track you are running on and the RPM range you will be using. Sometimes, a given cars powerband will work better with a lower RPM turbo then a higher output turbo that only produces power at high rpms.

It also depends on whether or not you run manual or auto transmission, and your driving style. Even though you have more power shifting early, sometimes it's hard to short shift. The MR2 Supercharged has it's power band in 4500-6100RPMs, but revs to 9000RPMs, and sometimes you just really want to her the engine scream, or just forget to shift.

I do appreciate everyones feedback and realize pp/hp/torque doesnt mean everything as there are many aspects to consider...

anyone else know more cars?

Final HP don't mean anything, it is the power curve that matters. And some times the stage 2 turbo gives a more stable curve with a higher average HP (estimated of cause) then the stage 3 turbo. That is what matters. HP is nothing without control, and the more drive able setup is in 90% of the cases the fastest.

Well there's the AE86 S.S Version, the Mid Range Turbo gives you an amazing powerband and response. The High Range Turbo kick in around 8000RPM and the thing redlines at 9500, no fun.
