anyone else ever noticed how often the computer runs off the course coming out of turn 9 at laguna seca? it seems to get loose, go over into the dirt, then overcorrect and go off on the other side of the track going into turn 10. i've seen this happen twice in the last 2 days. wonder why?

Yeah I've totally noticed this. My opinion is, that is a very tough corner. I'm personally used to going much faster down the hill, braking a tad, and then zooming thru turn 9....but you can't do that anymore...now you really gotta keep your speed low--even as you come down the hill. Kinda sucks, but I guess that's the way the real track has been re-done. :indiff:

but yeah...the Ai used to screw up the corkscrew something mad! Now it tends to get the corkscrew okay  but screws up turn 9 by overshooting the turn, then driving into the grass/sand. :ouch:

haha i was beginning to think that i was delusional and no one else had seen this because no one was replying :P

Nope. NObody has seen this thread. It's in the invisible section of GT planet. We basically have our own little chat room.

I think in GT3, the corkscrew didnt require you to turn TOO much, but now in GT4 you actually have to turn, otherwise you'd hit the dirt, like the actual circuit itself.

I still today, decide to cut the corners a bit, and zoom down, regardless of hitting a lot of little dirt. I've been doing this since GT2, :P

Agreed, in GT3 you can do that turn before that long uphill before the corkscrew at full blast, or minimal braking, with no side effects, but now you have to slow down to around 75-80MPH depending on car and tires. It was possible in GT to do Laguna Seca in 55 seconds or so in an F1, but I don't think it's that easy now. :( The track looks cleaner obviously in GT4, compared to GT3, but the track is more narrow, brighter, and much thinner curbing. yo are forced to do turn one in the thin road on the left now. 👎

I do kinda miss the days when there'd be a multi-car pileup (ala GT2) down the corkscrew. Does this happen in GT4 at all? I sure haven't seen any yet...the Ai drives this part so well now.

Having stood and looked up at that turn in real life at Laguna Seca a couple of weekends ago, I can tell you why. :sly:
That turn is a lot, lot steeper than the game actually seems to represent it.
Although the steepness of descent in the Corkscrew is readily apparent in the game, it doesn't convey the true openess of the runoff area, nor the massive descent that goes on as you pass through the turn and under the bridge there. :scared:
It's a downright nasty turn, with a deceptive turn-in point and a steep downhill area where a tap on the brakes may seem enough, but really isn't, especially in some of GT4s Supercars & Race cars.

I'm surprised Jordan himself hasn't chipped in here yet, having experienced the real thing just a month or so ago!

Jordan (I've noticed) is a man of few words. He seldom visits some of the most active areas of his own website. I'd love his opinion, too, but who knows if we'll ever hear it.

Is turn 9 the corner after the corkscrew, or is it the corner before the pit entrance?

Edit: Dont worry, I know which one now. To be honest, I have never seen any car screw up there!

It seems to happen in the Forumla GT Championship Laguna Seca race, because it has never happened to me in any other race.

To me it happens (either to my car if B-Spec is on or to any AI cars), especially if the cars are more powerful, in almost every lap.

If Bob's driving, I have to decrease the pace for that turn only (for example, if I'm on 5, I have to set the pace to 3) or he'll go out on that turn like a swiss clock :)

Mine's the same. All the AI drivers do it, but my b-spec does it far more often  I have to nanny him through that turn every lap otherwise he falls so far back he starts getting lapped. I haven't found any particular correlation between his inability to negotiate this curve and the car he's driving at the time, though I also wouldn't rule out the possibility that his sandtrap fetish may have some root in my "I wonder what happens if I turn this knob?" approach to suspension tuning :ill: He was awful there in the FGT series.

I've only b-speced at Laguna a handful of times, but I noticed I can't really push Bob past "2"/cruise at this course (unless I sit there and guide him to slow down & speed up of course).
