Anyone else think Ebay should go back to it's roots ?.Also what's with a classified advert with an advertised price all about and the buy it now prices. This is an auction site not a newspaper. If you want to place an advert with a avertised price go on Autotrader.co.uk .What do you guys think.

Also i think Ebay is trying to be everything to everybody, that isn't what ebay is about. And should be for traders only, not the public.Ofcourse the public sell the vehicles or what have you but buyers should be the traders. And because it's an auction site you can't get scammers on there advertising whatever so it's safe.

It is what it is. I have no complaints.

Perhaps if people stopped concerning themselves with irrelevant obstacles we could live as John Lennon hoped we would.

...and stuff and thing...

This is an auction site not a classified.

eBay was an auctioning site only before, but now it's a shopping district of its own, with auctions still going strong.

I can't think of an efficient reason to take a step back in advancement other than to "maintain tradition".

I've no interest in eBay's goals, but I'm curious as to why do you say this.

People have gotten scammed on eBay before numerous times in the past, and I'm pretty sure they didn't originate solely from buy-it-now listings.

I pretty much use eBay like Amazon. I don't do auctions, I really only buy things with a set price.

You should know by now that S&S liles to come in, makes these broad sweeping comments like that to stir the pot then leaves, seldomly replying back to comments directed at him.

eBay's goal is to make money. A goal they're excelling at. There's no way they'd change that while there's money in it.

I'm actually not aware of his history here. Appreciate the heads up.

Branch out to cater to the wider public while making more products easier to obtain (at much lower prices than Amazon in my experience), or stagnate while buyers/sellers favour alternative e-commerce sites?

The former seems like logical progression on their part in order to stay competitive. And I'm all for it. I wouldn't even attempt to buy anything through eBay if they'd remained an auction-only site.

I say keep it as it is. Bidding on things that aren't particularly rare or valuable is a silly idea.

Personally I do prefer going through the eBay auctions because (with some perserverance) that's where you can weed out the better deals - in my experience most Buy it Now products I've looked for are undercut by Amazon et al. Plus auctions are still great for niche stuff that random people decide to flog one day - my favourite being motorsport related t-shirts, much better to hunt down a 90s F1 shirt in good nick than the latest new kit the teams charge you a small fortune for :P

Probably a genuine question to raise about eBay is its attitude towards sellers - I'm not one of them but I've read a lot about how to get rid of that "full of scammers" image they've been pretty hard on them, taking away feedback privileges and steadily increasing fees which has been squeezing out the small-medium size sellers. I've read that refund claims are almost always decided in favour of buyers too. It's no wonder that the site has moved towards a more standard marketplace with big sellers really.

^ I was a victim of a dishonest buyer recently. It's frustrating when the buyer won't communicate properly...

Buyers are more favoured with transactions. It's pretty gross.

I have run two eBay accounts for almost twenty years - one for community interactions (huge amount of forums worldwide) and one for my official 'store' - with that in mind I'd say: nail on the head.
I also find 'Buy it now' convenient sometimes.
Auctions are for snipers. Like me. ;)

Good thing Smoke&Slide is not on the Board of Directors.
Obviously he/she is not or else they would be tabling it and not posting the idea at a gaming forum.

I think eBay works extremely well currently. I've gotten amazing deals thanks to the option to offer or by bidding, also by settling on a price with the seller. The Buy It Now is also very useful since some people want that exact price for what they're selling and it really is a good marketplace for companies big or small.

eBay works fine as is. If I ever wanted to go back more than decade in time and progression, I'd simply just use the Wayback Machine.

Recently, after losing three auctions in a row by seconds, I said F it and went for the far more convinient option of 'Buy it Now'. There's no way I would bother if it was or went back to strictly being an auction only site.

I've only entered a handful of auctions in my circa 300 purchases on eBay. BiN just suits me fine.
