TV flickering on and off when taking picture in photo-mode. Trying to change resolution?

This is more of a technical question as opposed to a gameplay question.

When using photo mode, when I press X to take the picture (after finalising settings etc) my TV switches resolutions and flashes on and off. Almost like when you change the resolution on your PC and the screen flicks on and off for a second as it sets its resolution and Mhz frequency etc.

I run my PS3 on 576p/720p/1080i. GT6 starts up in 1080i, my on TV overlay shows 1080 @ 60 mhz. When i take the picture it flashes on and off and still displays 1080, almost like its swapping resolutions but it isnt. If it swapped to 720p it would tell me on the TV display.

I tried removing 1080p from my PS3 display options forcing GT6 to run in 720p, still does the same thing. TV shows its in 720p. Its annoying as when you take a picture it has to flicker on and off, this adds time to confirming to keep the picture and going back to the photo settings. When you take the picture it does it, then shows your picture, once you have pressed X to save it, it flickers off and on again.

Does anyone else have this? It is, I suspect, just my television which is doing this. Its an old (5 years I think) LCD 37", PS3 is connected via HDMI cable. Have no problems on any other games. PS3 is a 2007 Phat 40GB model.

Anybody have any ideas at all? Its not detrimental to the game but its annoying. I love photomode and this ruins it!

It also switches audio modes. My surround sound receiver starts blinking various icons like crazy. Very odd. I don't mess with photo mode much but agree it's annoying.

Same with mine. There is an option to change photo ratio to 16 9 in photo mode. Don't know if that will work but worth a try.

Don't have the issue, I have Samsung 32" LCD, when I press x, it shows the GT logo with bar loading, then it shows the picture, no flicker. I used 720p, tried 1080p, same, no issues, I also used AVR - Harman Kardon, 5.1 DTS output, it stays normal, no audio cutting or reinitialization when running GT6 - taking pic or driving. It may be PS3 issue ?

Maybe check the XMB sound setting, disable multi audio output, untick unused audio mode, I only have DTS ticked on my sound setting. I have ANYNET+ HDMI CEC enabled on my TV, so the PS3 can communicate to the TV via HDMI, when I turn on the PS3, it also turns on the TV. I can also navigate the XMB and issue commands as if using DS3 with my TV remote.

That's weird, when in photo travel, it goes black for a moment after pressing x, it shows the loading bar and please wait prompt with capturing image ... displayed, while the background stays black until the picture shows up when the bar is halfway - darkened in the background. There's a black screen after saving or exiting the picture going back to viewfinder ( only for a second )

Its just the signal across hdmi. At certain times the hdmi output blinks out when changing content. Your tv will take a sec to detect what kind of signal is being recieved. Nothing is wrong. If it bothers you alot you could connect using component video if 1080i is your max resolution any way and not see any real quality decrease.

I noticed this last night and after a while the TV lost the HDMI signal. Ejected the disc and it fired up again.

Search for an HDMI TV input with MHL (Mobile High-Definition Link) and use it if available.
Maybe it can solve the problem.

Edit: I don't have any problems with picture mode and or any problem related here. I had a problem with HDMI input prior finding the MHL, since regular HDMI is not capable to deal with PS or HD graphics.

From the looks of it the photo mode uses some kind of super sampling to render the final image. Would be interesting if Digital Foundry did a pixel count on the photo mode images. It is probably flushing the frame buffer in this mode hence the loss of signal. Just like changing resolutions on a PC.
