A PistonHeads thread surrounding a TVR logo on a mystery barn has sparked a rumour that the stricken car company is making a come-back. Last week PHers were discussing whether the premises near Wesham carrying the iconic TVR logo were being used for ‘research and development’.

Member ‘TVR 26S’ opened the PH thread by saying: ‘Yes folks its true, TVR is setup is Wesham, about 15 miles from Original Blackpool. I know this because one of the chief foremans who lives round the corner from me who shall remain nameless has admitted to it. No cars are being made but the design aspect of it is taking place there.’

Two images emerged showing the barn with TVR logo and another half built facility that was said to also be part of the rebirth of the Blackpool carmaker. Now local press have picked up the story and Derek Smith, deputy editor of the TVR Car Club magazine, said both Russian millionaire Smolenski and TVR managing director David Oxley were reportedly involved.

Mr Smith added: ‘We have it on good authority the Kirkham site is going to be used as a design studio, a kind of design and research development office. ‘They have approached an engineering company in Kent to supply the engines, but it is still unsure where they are going to be built.’

One former TVR employee, who asked not to be named, said: ‘It's an open secret, about 10 former workers are there doing design and research. I've heard they have two cars on the go, but it's all hush-hush.’

However, many TVR fans have dismissed the rumours as exactly that, rumours, and want to see real evidence of TVR’s return. It is thought that re-launching the brand simply isn’t financially viable.

One source close to the company told PistonHeads: ‘Whatever the situation with TVR, it doesn't alter the reality of the wider situation - ie the company was lost in late 2005 and it won't be coming back. There is zero business case for TVR as we knew it to return.’

According to the Blackpool Gazette, Wesham House Farm was previously the home of Submarine Manufacturing and Products Ltd and the site is owned by local businessman Phil Connolly. His company MSS Holdings is said to have given planning permission by Fylde Council for a new storage and workshop building at the farm last autumn.

He would not comment on who was now running a business in the workshop. Coun Roger Small, Fylde Council's portfolio holder for Development and Regeneration, said: ‘If the rumours are correct and TVR have some presence in Fylde, it's only to be welcomed.’

Very nice. I hope it's an actual return, but I'm confused as to why they wouldn't have some sort of press release. I mean, it's not as though they don't have thousands of people dying to buy one. And it's not as though they are developing this in secret. After all, the company name is rather prominently placed. This isn't some secret testing ground; it appears to be the company itself. Smolenski's weird. I guess all that really matters is if the product is good. The company's got enough brand momentum that word of mouth should carry them well enough.

The whole idea of another small company working out of a brick shed is kind of appealing, too.

Wait, wait... What?

I thought the Americans from Florida bought TVR out and they were still producing the cars in Blackpool, furthermore, sending some Stateside.

Did I miss something?

TVR's are gonna be built in a BARN?

You know....that's almost laughable...

If Tyrrell can win Formula One drivers and constructors championships working out of an old woodshed, then TVR can certainly make road cars in a barn ;)

No, they were preparing to make an investment and a possible buy out, it hasn't happened yet if it will. TVR hasn't been iproducing for over 6 months now since the Blackpool factory closed down. It's worth pointing out though that TVR hasn't gone out of business, they are meerly not producing at the moment. There has been plans for the company to re-open it's production line this year for some time. However Smolenski has damaged the company and he has done u-turns on big decisions in the past so nothing is set in stone until it has happened. Car slike the Typhoon are still planned for production at some point, and the Sagaris and Tuscan 2 are also slated for a return to production. Though nothing to specifically mention this site.

No, it's not. The logo is on a barn, the cars won't be built there. You haven't taken note of what the article has said. There's a facility being built, that is where the work will be done be it a design studio or the actual production. There is a barn with the comapny logo next the building that is under construction. What I find odd about thoes picture is that the TVR logo was redesigned by Smolenski and he was going to put the new one on all the cars made after his transition period when the company would re-start production, that is the old logo. If this is an official project and this site is going to be part of the comapnies plans then it must mean Smolenski is not going to change the comapny logo. It's worth noting that there are actually people working in the barn, they have been approached by local media and they have refused to talk about it.

Did you miss the big blue structure in this background?

Anyway, I presume the goats and their farm/barn is just there so that TVR can make its own industrial-strength glue.

Okay, okay. but, still, there's something about agricultural cars to be said, there. XP

Come on, cars built on a farm? closest we get to that around here is NASCAR shops. So, they're building TVRs at a NASCAR-style facility. A (likely very clean) workshop on a farm.

No, if rumour is correct their designing them there. That facility doesn't look big enough to produce them there. If they built more on it then maybe. Regardless, what difference does it make if the workshop is on a farm or on an industrial estate. None. TVR doesn't need some big plant like Honda does to build cars over here, they are and always have been workshop cars built largely by hand. Where the workshop is located is unimportant and has no bearing on the quality of the cars, the engineers and machinery being used to build and assemble the cars on the other hand does.

Cool, it will be interesting what TVR come up with for their new cars, I hope they still weigh 1000kg.
