Twisted Metal Black
Genre:
Action
Story:
Each character has his/her own story, but they all revolve around the same theme. Each person experienced a tramatic event, something along the lines of losing a friend, loved one, being targeted while being an innocent bystander, et cetera. They all share one thing in common: the need for vengence, so they shoot rockets, guns, barrels of fuel, and special weapons at the opponents, destroying their vehicles.
Audio:
The sounds in Black are well done. Sounds appear for anything one would imagine. Whether shooting rockets, guns, turbo, or brakes, accurate sounds arise.
Gameplay:
The gameplay is similar to the traditional Twisted Metal series. The cars handle with arcade-style physics, the rockets all have their own unique characteristics, and each character has their own physics. The larger vehicles are slower and cannot jump as far as the smaller, lighter-weight vehicles, but they make up for their lack of speed with their strength.
Replay Value
The replay value for Twisted Metal Black should be divided into two categories: single player and multiplayer
Single Player:
After completing a few characters' stories on single player more than once, it becomes too easy to complete the game on the Normal Difficulty(One should not use the Easy difficulty because it is too simple,) the best thing to do is bump up the difficulty to Hard. Once the player finishes more stories on Hard, it will progressively appear to get easier again. After all the stories are completed and the two other single player modes are finished, there is not too much more appeal for the game. The reason: it becomes too easy. There are no limits in the beginning such as money as there are in a game such as Gran Turismo 3. Therefore, the only appeal would be to win the characters and maps for multiplayer again if the game were erased. A main loss for the replay is the theatre/movie section. There, players can browse through all the movies unlocked while playing the game without having to go back and complete the levels to watch the movies(not that all the movies are Grade A or anything...)
Multiplayer:
This is where the replay value is large. If one were to gather with friends, people could play Black in three different modes for Multiplayer, playing up to four players. While playing with four players, although the screen size for each character is quite small(the screen is divided into the four traditional rectangles,) the intensity and suspence can be very powerful if all players are evenly matched.
Graphics
The graphics for Black are impressive. There are very few glitches where the camera is below ground or you can see gaps in the scenes. The animations run smoothly and the FPS rate only drops dramatically in freak incidents.
Load Times
Loading in Black is wonderful. The only times when there are loads are when players switch from one level to the next, or when playing on very large maps(I've only encountered 2 or 3 out of all where loads were necessary after each "Retry."
Special Features
There aren't too many special features unique to this game, mainly because there's no internet gameplay unless someone purchases the Multiplayer version.
Summary
This game is great. It's not the best out there, but for the price($15 US I got mine at,) it's VERY hard to beat.
