Two beeps?

My old computer beeps twice at start up. It has no video. The card is new, the computer not so new. I've tried several monitors and it's not that. I suspect the two beeps are trying to tell me something. What are they called? Does anyone know what two of them means? Does anyone know what the problem is? Thanks.

Not totally sure but it might be that the vid card and the computer are conflicting? Or something else might be conflicting. Does the system start?

It sounds like it but I can't see anything so I can't be sure.

Why would such a conflict happen? The card worked for a while before this problem started. I replaced it because the old one was wrecked. The new card seemed to solve it.

That would be a POST error. I suggest looking at this page for your specific BIOS manufacturer, or visit their website and look for a POST code error explaination.

If all else fails, it could be the AGP slot or your PCI slot on the Motherboard has gone bad.

Thanks man. I'll try those trouble-shooting steps tomorrow.

On the back of the box there is the monitor outlet on the video card, then there is another one just like it that seems to be part of the mother board. I've plugged the monitir inot that ans it doesn't work there either. I'm wondering if I need to remove the AGP card first for that to work?

I don't see why you would have to but I guess try it. Does it have onboard video? I know mine doesn't as it has communication ports instead. i really wish it did.

I don't see why it would be the AGP card itself because you said it was fairly new. It has to be something motherboard related. I know this will sound n00bish, but have you tried testing the monitor on another computer?

I haven't tried that. I've only tried different monitors on this computer. I have a couple in the garage. I'll try in the morning.

It sounds like you do have onboard video. First, take out the video card, start the computer and go into the BIOS, disable the onboard video, turn the computer off, and place the video card back in.

Milefile, these are called beep codes and they are a series of messages that your bios gives you in order to tell you what is wrong...

you have to check the maker of your bios, go to thier website and find the corresponding beep code....

some bios' have only 5 codes and others can have a hundred and the same beep codes can have a different meaning depending on the manufacturer....

they are almost always a harware error relating to memory or IO cards...

Dang, seems Viper Zero got to it before i could. Try what he said and it will most likely fix your problem..

So when the video card is out the onboard video will work?

What that is us a POST beep, it is going through the hardware of your computer to check if any hardware is conflicted through the BIOS. I actually bet you are hearing two short beeps and one long one, unsure though. That is an almost universal POST beep code. I am unsure if anyone else said this or not. Basically go ahead and reseat the Video card in the computer and see if that helps :D
