Two country flags? (Suggestion)

I've noticed a few people on the forums live in one country, but are actually from another. I know when you're filling in your personal information in your profile, it asks what your country is... Which is fine. But for those people who would like other users in the forum to know they live somewhere else (to save confusion), they're restricted to only one flag.

Does anyone else support the idea of possibly having two flags displayed under the username?

Do you mean, I could have one flag letting people know my country of origin; and another flag that people could add to show they were visiting another country? If that's the case - I think that sounds pretty good. 👍

I think most have their country of birth as the flag, and their current "position", so to say, written next to it. I would do that. It's not that confusing to me, but if a such feature, as you describe, will be implemented, I don't think it would hurt anything.

The birth country flag could be in parentheses after the current country flag to make it easier to distinguish. Just a quick idea how to implement it.

Yeah, I've seen a lot of people doing it that way. Like you said, I don't think it'll be too bad looking at other methods. 👍

That's what I had in mind. I think it would perfect, and it shouldn't make the side bar too clattered:

... Or maybe even without the '/'.
I suppose you could do what Shem has done. I think it looks pretty decent/tidy.
That looks really neat.

There's also user 'A_Higher_Place' who has neatly included both flags in his avatar. I'm sure he'll use this feature it it's ever added to the site:

I don't see anything wrong with using the flag to indicate your nationality, and the location to indicate your... location!

Last year, I was living in Germany, so I retained the Welsh flag, as I would, but my location changed to 'Deutschland'. I don't see how that could be misconstrued as anything other than a Welshman living in Germany.

^^^ this. If you were born in one country and reside in a different one, use the flag of the country you most closely identify with. If it's important to you to tell us about both, well you already have avatars, user titles, signatures, and as Liquid pointed out, a location.

Thanks for the comments. 👍 It's good to hear different opinions.

I wonder what Jordan would think.

With some wise (not really) photoshop editing, and use of the grey colour tone used in the sidebar, I'm sure you could integrate it into your avatar, and make it look like it's not part of your avatar. Then remove it from your actual info so it doesn't show up twice. If that makes any sense at all.

Of course you wouldn't get the rollover effect that pops up with the name of the country.

If you make it a PNG file with transparent background, it will use the default background of the sidebar.
