You aren't going to believe this, either. For a few months, I've been eagerly awaiting the arrival of the new 4Runner. Well, here it is. I don't think a company has ever done such a poor job re-desigining a vehicle, with the possible exception of the new 7-series.

Of course the Aztek is uglier, but remember, the Aztek had no real competitors. It was extremely practical, rather small, and had a minivan-like layout.

The 4-Runner is going to have a tough time in the next few years against the Trailblazer, Explorer, and Pilot.

and never will have it.
i think nobody can really make competition.( even be close)

mmm I think that'll go down well in Europe, but maybe not the :USA: Market?
i hope so.and i hope that thing never come to :USA:

Yechh. No, it's not as bad as the Aztek, but it's certainly a step in the wrong direction. I wasn't a fan of the last 4Runner, but at least it looked the part. This thing just looks...well, I don't want to look at it at all anymore. :P

Man, I thought they said that the Honda Element (pic. on avatar) was ugly. I disagree that the 4Runner/HiLux Surf is ugly, Toyota is thrying to emphasize its image on its SUV (execpt the Highlander), as you can see, its more of a Sequoia than a RAV4.

And BTW, nobody beats the uglyness of a Pontiac Aztec, in fact, they don't advertise the SUV on thier ads ("Fuel for the Soul" ad). Second for me is the Cayenne from Porsche, it the ugliest Porsche ever since the 914, I think people will buy this SUV just because of its tremendous engine lineup.

Even thou they said that the Element is ugly, I will still like it because of it versatility and Honda reliability (planning to be my next car if I have the $$$$$).

Now this is ugly. The new porsche suv is the ugliest suv ive ever seen. And this is coming from a big porsche fan.

The Cayenne is a VERY well-designed SUV. I still don't know where these rather groundless anti-Porsche SUV claims are coming from. I see that no one is bashing the extremely similar VW Touareg - perhaps it's brand prejudice. :)

The Cayenne is not well put together. It is a Touareg, with a better engine and Porsche detailing. Add some suspension tweaks, different wheels & tires, and voila -- a Porsche SUV! Those same front grille and rear valences that look so sweet 6" off the ground fall apart when they're 20" higher. It looks M-Class fat and defiles all that Porsche has stood for. This is a pure marketing exercise. No one asked for one of these. It's not like at Volvo, where suburbia has been clamoring for more than a decade for AWD before the CrossCountry; it's not like the Outback, where adding moderate height to an already capable wagone makes sense; and it's not like the X5, where the execution is excellently carried out. The Cayenne will be the biggest farce ever to succeed so well.

Succesion isn't a farce. If it does succed, it will because clearly people DID ask for them.

Why the hell did they make a Lamborghini LM002?

No. Before the Cayenne was announced, there is not one person on this planet that said "You know what would be perfect? If they could merge 'SUV' and '911' into one car. Wouldn't that be neat? I'd buy that." You can't find one person who would have said that 18 months ago. Sure, people are asking for them now, now that the thing exists. I mean, we all know morons with too much money looking for the "next hot thing" out there. The base-model Honda Civic succeeds, year after year. When was the last time it was considered the best car out there? Might does not make right. Microsoft succeeds quite well, too.... (I love pointing out that last bit. :) )

Because some Saudi prince asked that one be made for him and his 100 closest friends? ;)

The idea for the Cayenne is not Porsche's. Hummer turned the exotic SUV into cash. Mercedes turned the ML55 'exotic' and quick concept into cash, and the G-wagen became something of a cult seller.

Maybe Porsche needs a luxury sedan - I know a designer who could make it happen, too! No one at his current company likes his designs.

a porshe sedan i like the idea. ;)
but tha cayane i don't think is a nice idea, may they sell a lot ,cuz .

that is the only reason to make it.

is not the uglyes thing in the auto market, but is so bad ( and ugly) for be porshe.

the only thing i can think now is: may they are selling this model just for 1/2 years ( no more) and later they gonna make a new and real porshe model.( may they are testing the public to see the reaction, and how the peolpes respond to idea of a porshe suv) that model was made by porshe and audi, they don't will show everything now.

they finish that projet with audi and later they gonna use all they learn with audi ( about suv) and what they learn about suv market and what the peolpes whant and expect from porshe.( in that market)

please correct me if i'm wrong.

I don't think it's only going to be sold for half a year, or, for that matter, one or two years if that's what you meant. I think it will have a normal, fruitful, long production run. :D

BTW, the lambo was actually designrd for the US army, but then someone came to their senses and realized that a Humvee was a better choice than a $500,000 lambo SUV.

Remember seeing those pictures of the 4-door 911? What was that, 5 years ago? All I remember is a top view with 4 people getting out. Rear engined cars don't seem to work to well with that much weight in that back, from what I hear. Something about the pendulum effect....

Yep - the 4-door 911. I wish I could find a picture on the web, it looked pretty crappy from the one picture I saw.... no luck on Google Images, and that design is so old, no one probably even remembers it except for the two of us.
