UK MSN Chat closing permanetly

I was reading about this in the paper this morning on my way to work.

I suspect that it could well lead to a polarisation of the Internet Service Provider market as some providers (likely AOL) continue to provide these services, and others do not. However, AOL have their own subscriber base and could restrict chat-room access to their own subscribers which would at least keep it in-house. Would people shift ISP to one that does provide chat-room access? I don't know. I've never ever used a chat room, so don't know what they're like.

I do think, however, that if there are parents of impressionable teenagers, especially girls, who are looking to choose an ISP, MSN has suddenly got itself a unique selling point. Which could be a marketing coup.

At any rate, I respect Microsoft's decision to do this. It shows courage, especially since there is no rival Microsoft product providing similar functionality waiting in the wings.

It's not just in the UK, they're closing down most of their chatrooms around the world.

compared to Yahoo! chat and IRC i dont know how popular MSN was....

damn this sucks, i use msn messenger, and i thought microshaft also said something about to use msn messenger, youre going to need to subscribe (ie you pay money for crap you dont use in order to talk to your friends) to be able to use msn. but hopefully someone will find a way pass this...

Just to make this clear, will MSN Messenger also be something we have to pay for?

i doubt it but it will be a bunch of bs if they do

I don't use chatrooms.

It's only for chatrooms because of paedophiles stalking stupid kids. I went into one of the MSN chatrooms...it was like a madhouse!

okay scrap the crap i just said...

according to MS, MSN Messenger is NOT included in the sweep of changes....its just their chatroom....(loss making chatrooms)...i wonder if that has anything to do with it....

anyway...the biggest wasp i have every seen has just swooped in my office window and tried to sting me on the arm...b*stard....i swatted it with a ruler and flicked it out if the 6th floor window....

just let that be a lesson to all wasps on this forum..

o, good it only the chatrooms, not msn messenger, if they did make us pay for that, then id jack there software insted of buying it, only to show my hate towards them

In today's paper. It told a story of this 30 year old guy, who wanted to have sexual contact with 20-27 year old girls.

He lured 2 14 year old boys, and 1 14 year old girl into his home for sexual contact.

So this person was on the internet from a University posing as a 14 year old, then the guy started sexually talking to him and he told the police, and the police have the Sick guy in custody or something now.
