"I was unaware of my speed"?

The gigantic speedometer in front of you, the scenery going past and your closing speed to other vehicles weren't clues?

Anyone "unaware" that they're a ton up needs to have their licence permanently removed.

:lol::lol::lol:

Agreed, that is very delicious irony indeed.

I can't see him wriggling out of this one easily.

Article clip :

Serco last year led a high-profile anti-speed campaign backed by the Government called Safe Drive Stay Alive.
Riall said at the time: “In courts and prisons we see the direct consequences of reckless and dangerous driving every single day.
“For far too many young people it ends with a prison sentence - but for the families left behind the pain lasts much longer.
Serco - which Riall joined in 2005 - has been credited with saving more that 100 lives a year on Britain's roads.

I can see he leads by good example. :dopey:

"Anyone caught doing more than a ton faces an automatic ban of up to two years as well as a £2,500 fine."

I suppose that the expression "doing more than a 'ton'" means that he was going more than 100 mph...in the UK? I live in the U.S. and I've never heard than expression before.

In my neighborhood, they put up some speed cameras. Not two months after the cameras were put up, two state troopers received speeding tickets in the mail. Not not sure how fast they were going, but you have to think that if an officer had pulled them over, they got off without a ticket. True justice.:sly: By the way, how can you go that fast and be "unaware" of your speed. Are UK's roads that smooth?

No they are not. Not by a LONG way.

Yes it does. And you're right - up to 100mph is points on your licence OR a ban and a fine. 101mph and over is a ban OR points on your licence and a fine. It has to be a special case for the latter to apply instead of the former.

My brother was convicted of exactly 100mph as, apparently, it's very difficult to get a laser speed reading on the front of an Ariel Atom and the magistrates weren't impressed with how the police presented their case (and they were impressed with how he presented his). He was given 6 points (maximum on your licence is 12 before you are banned) and a £500 fine - had they convicted him of 101mph or more, the ban would have been the first option.

And I should add that's on a 70mph limit road. Do 100mph through a 30mph limit and you'll be lucky not to end up in prison.

Use your choice of insult for this guy everyone (Pillock, Plank, Moron, Muppet) but atleast UK judicial system throw the book at this clown, please!! 💡 The thought that he could (and probably will) get away with this is just wrong to start with. "Oooh, I'm the boss of speed cameras, but I got done by the highway patrol!!" HA, serves you right fool. I hope this guy cops 2yrs DQ'ed off the roads and the biggest fine they can give him!

Someone let all of us know what he does receive as a penalty when it comes up. :)

He'll probably give the UK a free camera setup or two, and get off with sterne warning. You know how rich folks are.:indiff:

If it was Sydney, it would be no fine, no conviction, and the judge asking him to give him a lift home. :yuck:

Justice may be blind, but her sense of smell for money is pretty damn good. ;)

No such thing as an "automatic ban".

Typically up to and including 100mph on a 70mph limit road (Motorway, NSL dual carriageway) carries 6 points and a fine, with an option for a ban. Typically over 100mph on the same road carries a ban, with an option of 6 points and a fine.

For some reason the magistrates chose to issue the optional 6 points and a fine, to take him to 12 points (which bans him for 6 months) rather than the usual ban for 102mph.

Luckily my car can't even do 100mph! 👍

It seems to run out of go at about 94mph on the speedo (Tested on.....the autobahn?)

How lovely :D

Although it's not entirely difficult to get a car up to 100mph. Even our relatively pathetic 90bhp C4 diesel will do 112, apparently (not that I dare go above 80) And god knows what this bloke is driving - he's the head of a multi million pound company, so presumably not a Kia Picanto.

That comment alone will add "negligent driving" to your speeding ticket (~$300 here), or, depending on the speed, reckless driving (jail and a huge fine). This story is hilarious, BTW!.

Ah right, still a bit dubious that they didn't give an outright ban.
