Ultima GTR

This ****er is fast and cheap. Im sure many of you have seen the top gear clip with tiff needle giving the GTR a go. He tests quite a few cars, and actually used to race. Those tested unclude the Mclaren f1, porsche gt1, and this, the ultima GTR.

Anyone who knows of this car can post their knowledge or pictures of it. I might post more info later. I just thought as there is a dream car thread elsewhere in this forum, and no one but me mentioned this car, I must be one of the only people that know of it.

Its 2100lb and has something like 600hp. With a bug eye cockpit and monstrous wing, it looks and feels like a race car. Its street legal btw. It costs around $80k and its performance is comparable to the Mclaren F1.

When I can afford this thing, it will be in my garage.

I've seen of one for sale, about 120k (AU), it's a very light car from what i've heard, similar to the Caterham/Lotus 7, but bigger, with a roof, and faster...

yea, much faster. and lotus 7s are monsters themselves. I am just thinking of driving an ultima gtr on the street. the concept is mindblowing. everyone else, once you see a picture of this thing you will understand.

Oh yea, the ultima GTR chassis was the one used to test certain components for the mclaren f1. those are your credentials.

now lets all sit down for a bit and think of what other types of cars you could get with near the same price as this. ...... dodge viper, an incredible performance per dollar car.....ultima gtr kills it........360 for twice the cost........ultima rapes its asshole and leaves it for dead.......lets venture into the used car market, where the best values are found, lets say you could even find a 996 turbo....no chance at all.......okay, now some crazy old guy sells you his f50 for 100k.............skull ****ed!!!!!!

From their website it appears that way. But I have heard prices quoted at $40k also. I think as a kit the chassis costs 40, dissasembled. I will look into this further.

I have found some ultima owners sites though. I did a bit of reading tonight, it looks like different motor can fit this chassis. A few guys put a twin turbo vette(ls6? 350? I know **** about chevy motors) motor in. That bumps the power output up to 800 something hp. That is just insane. Thats less than 3lb/hp. I would like to know what level open wheel series one of these things could compete with.

There's a race somewhere in Nevada called the Silver State Classic, where they close down long stretches (like 90 miles) of desert highway.

One guy had a twin turbo Ultima GTR pushing 900+hp and was looking to win with top speeds somewhere near 250mph....

Try searching Google for silver state classic and hit the cached part if you need to.

indeed, my m8 is really into kit cars, i had heard of the ultima long ago, i love it. unlike regular kit cars this one LOOKS beautiful too. i dont think the kit includes the engine however they are affiliated with a company that provides chevy blocks 5.7 v8's or something with all the right fittings for the ultima. so if you know a bit about cars or know nothing but are keen im sure you could construct this monster and have a very fast car.

i wouldn't call it my dream car but it definitely rulez
