Well I voted for Moglet, because (IMO) it was the most stunning shot (after Arathorns one).

I'm not going to vote, neither to enter anymore. I didn't like the "friendly voting" and now it is the 2nd time you make "friendly top ten". I know there are tastes for all the colors, but this time I think you have not been fair.

Arathorn, no offence but if you can't accept the judges decision then why bother entering? It's about the taking part, not the winning.

And what would be the first time? Never made any "friendly" poll in any comp whatsoever. This is an old accusation that pops up more or less regurarly, I just never have noticed any friendly voting or selecting top 10. Some people get a lot of votes because they produce good shots in pretty much every comp.

Your shot is not bad at all, it beats the basic gamma correction problem of UEC, that is showing some contrast in a pic that is meant to be viewed on a TV screen, not PC. It's just that that straight headlight shot has been done so many times before. That's why it was not in the poll. But of course I can't prove you your shot should not have been in the poll. This is an artistic comp and there is no way to do that. So it's just like Mog said, you accept the judges decision and move on.

is there anyway to vote for pictures without knowing who posted them untill you vote... just an idea... it would settle the friends voting for friends thing....sorta like the way you guys do the drift video comps you know the participators PM the link you place it on one post for people to view and later vote when the dead line past then see who posted what

Remember, there's a thread where every competitor posts his entry on a post under his username, so everyone knows who made each shot.

I've been here for around a year now and back in the days when more people entered, my shots often didn't make it to the Top 10. The only time they did was when I really got down to it and focused on the compositions and lighting on the shots.

This is only the 2nd time your picture hasn't made the cut, there's no need to get so upset about it, as it will happen more than twice, trust me. You just have to accept that your shot doesn't make it and use that as a base for improvement in future contests.

You don't understand what I mean, I don't want to say "this pic..." or "this user...", but there are shots on this poll clearly lower than other entries, not only mine.

Trust me, it's not about my pic didn't pass the cut, it's about the way it done.

Don't feel hard done by, I ain't won one yet (was hoping for great things from the GT40 this week, but not to be) but also, I know that' I'm not that good. If I win soon, it's going to be from a lucky break.

Since I'm here, my thoughts always was quite near from the final results. Since some weeks ago, I don't know why this is changing with crazy polls. The skills level have been upped as well lately, so it's more difficult to win. The rules are very clear indeed, so we only can accept the results being agree or not.

Arathorn, there's no easy way to have a completely anonymous way to have a competition, besides having everyone PM their entry (with no sig or anything) to the competition host, and having him or her post them without saying who they belong to. Although this may seem like a good idea, it's a long, unnecessary process.

If you have a feeling that there's a bias towards regulars or friends of the person who picks the top, then don't bother entering in the competition at all, because I can assure you, there isn't.

Well, it seems that GTP has turned into a dictatorship. A person cannot have his own opinion, regardless of how dumb it is. I’m not defending anybody but there are things here that in my see are wrong.

1st. I know that mouser asked for atlop to choose the top 10, but I didn’t like his attitude by choosing his own picture for the top Ten. I’m not saying that it is a bad or good picture I just think it is not moral.

2nd.

It's just that that straight headlight shot has been done so many times before.

So everyone has to search previous weeks competitions to know what shots have been made or not. I think that in competitions, we should look at the present and not the past.

3rd. Well, no one can prove the “friendly voting” or “friendly top ten”. I think that one way to resolve the polls issues, is to not having a top ten. Everyone would get into the poll. I’m not saying that I agree or not with this, but I think that, what is art to a person, doesn’t necessarily be art to another, thats why the votes don’t go to same picture.

4th. Normally, the Human being has ability to not do the same mistake over and over again. I appeal that we pass a rubber through this, especially Arathorn, let’s forget about this episode, that the mistakes had been learnt, and that we learn a lesson with this.

I think that one way to resolve the polls issues, is to not having a top ten. Everyone would get into the poll.

Seeing the number of entries decreasing as lately has happened I find this best suggestion of the day. 👍

Usually, no more than 13/15 entries on each comp (on those that have at least 10), so it would be fair to everyone, and would stop people that pick the top 10 from being flamed (fairly or unfairly, it doesn't matter).

Plus, as it would widen the choice, perhaps results could be a bit more balanced, seeing the votes would probably spread around more.

What do you guys think?

I know this is a poll thread, if you want I (or anyone else for that matter) can make a thread with a poll for this.

LdS, thanks for pointing that out, I don't think it's fair that atlop put in his own entry. But, in fairness to him, I like the shot and I would have put it in the top if I actually picked them.

Listen guys, what the top 10 selector picks goes. It's not really open for debate, it's what he wants and what he wants only. If you disagree with him, thats fine, but there is absolutely no reason for a poll debating the fairness of the comps. This has gone way out of hand IMO, and it should stop immediately. The big thing here is arrogance; if you're not mature enough to accept that you or someone else got left out of the poll, then you should not be competing at all.

The reason I made the thread with the poll was so the 'top 10' discussion would move over from a competition poll to it's own specific thread and not clog this thread.

There was a suggestion that there should be no top 10, and I figured maybe there's a lot more people thinking the same way. Would only find out with a thread for it, right?
And it's also for discussion relating these matters, so if you want to chip in, do it on that thread, it was open hours before you posted that.

And the way you're saying it: "...this has gone way out of hand...", "...should stop immediately..."...

It didn't get out of hand, it's a debate to see what people think about it.
After all, thinking members are the ones making this all happen, so everyone has the right to their own opinion on how things work. It doesn't mean anything will change, it's just a way to know what people think.

As to the 'should stop immediately' part, it's not very correct (to say the least) to have one member telling all the others to shut their pie holes (blantly put), because like I said, everyone's entitled to their own opinion. It's the base of a democracy, which I like to believe is a similar system to what makes this all thing go round.
After all, like someone said, it's the worst of all systems, if we forget all the others.
