Unbelievable bad luck!

So today I decided to treat myself to a quick race of 10 laps on the Nurburgring. (Well I guess that isn't so quick :dopey:)
When I tried my first endurance race I have officially stopped playing the rest of the game. I just simply LOVE driving for a half-hour, hour, or even 2 in one race.
Well anyway, back to this race.
I'll make it short.
Started the race in 9th.
Slowly moved up until I took 1st by lap 5 in my Team NFS BMW Z4 (Hard ai, elite)
I lead up until the 10th lap.
On the tenth lap on the high speed part of the track right before the Carousel I got a blowout! 👎
That's right! My first ever blowout!
A little more than one hour into the race!
I spun out and watched in horror as all the other cars passed by me after I worked so hard to stay in front of them!
Yet for some reason I wasn't too mad! I just knew I had a hell of a fun experience up to this point and it didn't matter if I won or lost :)
It was a battle all the way up to there, at most me having a 1 second lead on the 2nd guy! (Which happened to be a lot quicker than me on the straight! Flying by me every single lap)
Quick question: Does the AI also experience tire wear like we do? Or are they immune to that? Because if they don't there is no point of trying to do longer races, it would simply be next to impossible!

Anybody else have some straight up bad luck moments?

I have had a ton of those moments. I know the AI can crash, flip over, and wreck to the point of not finishing a race. Not sure of the blowout.

With longer races make sure to have a good tune on your car. Also make sure you drive catiously for the first half at least as to conserve tire and engine wear.

A good tune implies not so much toe/camber and RIGHT tire pressures and a much more conservative drive avoiding slides at all costs.

You will also note that the tires cool a bit on the straights. Use that.

Yeah I know they wreck, they do it all the time :dopey:
But no matter how good of a tune I have, still no use going against an AI for say, three hours, if their car is gonna be perfect the whole race.

I haven't tuned the Team NFS BMW Z4 at all, I felt no need to, I handles extremely well.
Yeah I drove very carefully.
I kept checking tire temps and the tires stayed at green for most of the track, then a slight shade of orange right before the straight, where they would cool back down to blue.
The problem was (I think this is what caused the blowout) I screwed up on a turn and I had to slide my car to make the turn and keep first, and I slid over a bumper, that's when I heard the big boom. I'm pretty sure sliding over that bumper caused it to "pop" or blowout.
It's still cool, this game gets more realistic every time I play :) 👍

Note that beside tire temperatures there's (I think it is) a wear indicator (vertical thin bar). Was it ok?

Because I've blown tires while hot red but never while green. I think you might have hit something that has blown your tires. It happened to me at Monza once after a crash debris were left on the track and on the next lap I went over them and bang.

It also happens with high rumble strips and general track cutting even if by accident...

To me its a feature. Some might think its a bug but even if it is, its a cool one. Don't touch it :D

I thought thin vertical bars on the tire were tire temperature? Is there a wear indicator?

Like I said, it was probably when I slid over the rumble strip on the last lap.

Yep, I went back to the "scene" and I looked at the rumble strip and then the replay. Yep I just barely hit the rumble strip with he tire as I slid over it trying to correct.

I love the feature!
It makes it that much more exciting!
It feels realistic!
Hm, I saved the replay, let me try to get a video of it up here.

I say that the vertical bar shows tire wear because I remember it decreasing while doing the endurance at Road America.

The temperature is the colour inside the tire (normal its green, blue its cold, yellow and above its hot).

Every tire is divided in 3 so you might see different shades and adjust the camber accordingly - i'm no tuner but it seems that feature helps on that particular setting since its how its done in real life (or so I read).

Should be easy to upload if you have a youtube account because that way you can upload 10s using the game replay menu.

I'm gonna try to find an explanation of those telemetry readings!
But here is the video.
I had to fast forward the entire 72 minute replay all the way to the end! I wish they had an option to make every lap a "Chapter" so you could jump to a certain lap.
I filmed what happened right before the blowout and how I tried to recover after the blowout as I wasn't sure what had happened!
It didn't work :ouch:

eheheh, the PS3 couldn't sync image with sound properly or youtube render messed with it.

Anyway, I still think it doesn't justify the visual damage only. After all, mechanical accidents and blown tires happen.

Fast forward 72m??? I find it FF 2 laps is too much :D

Haha this was on the PC.
And I used FRAPS to record it, so it's the game's fault the audio is not in sync.
Only the blowout was out of sync, everything else was correct, so it's the game's fault, not Youtube.
Yeah the blowout was annoying, yet cool and interesting at the same time.
Another reminder for me to drive less aggressively.
Haha I just used a small weight to keep the fast forward button pushed down on my keyboard and just let it run for like 15 minutes :sly:

this i recall nicely
that &^$! chris rado in the scion tc awd i could just not beat him, so i rammed him to take him out of the race xD

I guess this post belongs in this thread... my PS3 suffered the dreaded YLOD. No more Unleashed for me until it's reball time... :(( Have fun on the ring, blowouts and all!

Cheater!! 👍

Wow my bad luck is nothing compared to yours!
I could just restart the race, you have to go without playing Shift 2! :scared:
That sucks!
👎

You sure? Because I can see brake temp in those numbers plus that bar decreases... but now I'm in doubt... haven't done endurance races in a while.

If some one can confirm is appreciated that. I would do it but I need practice for tomorrow race and haven't started yet :(

It's very easy to confirm... Drive at high speed and stomp on the brakes... you'll see them turning red.

Omg. I totally forgot there is more than one telemetry screen.
I haven't used any of the other ones!
OMG, I'm so stupid. :ouch:
I gotta watch those other screens!

Ok now I have a problem?
Does anyone know how to switch in between the telemetry views while using a DFGT?
Or any way to bind it to a key while still using my wheel?
I can't seem to be able to change the telemetry views.

On the left hand side of the wheel you have the + (cross) like in a DS3 pad. Press left until you see the telemetry then press right to change between telemetry menus.

I never used my DFGT with Shift 2 but I assume it works like my G27.
