Yesterday, was the 60th anniversary of the assault on Iwo Jima. Over 110,000 US Marines and 800 ships converged onto a 7.5 mile piece of volcanic rock in the Pacific, the first of a series of stepping stones to the Japanese homeland. Hell on a very small island lasted for 36 days. 23,570 soldiers gave the ultimate sacrifice.

I always wondered who took that famous picture on Sulfur Island.

There was an interesting show on this on the history channel or discovery channel last night. It reminds me of how grateful we need to be of our ancestors for protecting us an our country, no matter what you think of the current state of politics/foreign policy.

There was one WWII vet interviewed who had a really interesting outlook on the Japanese bombing of pearl harbor. He said, "I didn't really hold it against them for planning a sneak attack, I remember someone once said, 'you get there the fastest with the mostest men, and you don't tell nobody you're 'a commin'.'"

All I can say on the subject is, I'm glad that war is an thing of the past. I also like to commend Viper for helping us remember an important part of history to both Japan and the United States. 👍

The article was pretty good also, but it did kind of lose me at the end(by bringing in Iraq), but no big deal. :)
