Unintended jumping

So I searched and couldn't find an answer to this.

Some of my cars, particularly a SLS Mclaren 19" and RX7 Bathurst, don't respond to my usual solutions to the front end lifting off the road on the Nordschleife Not just on the first big Quidlebacher Hohe jump but around the circuit there are several places where either the whole car or just the front wheels are off the ground.

Now on other cars I've softened the suspension, front more than back and softened the roll bars, this makes them perfectly drivable on the Nordscheife and my times, of under 7m for a variety of cars and under 6.40 for rather fewer cars and a fluky best around 6.25, suggest I'm doing OK.

I've got the full tuning upgrades to these cars and have tried a lot of different things, but a simple point in the right direction would be gratefully received.

Maybe try raising the ride height, this would help get over the bumps.

Lowering the damper settings too should work.

The game is stupid in that it doesnt allow you to add downforce to the front of cars, this would stop the front end lifting up.

I've already lifted the ride height some 5 or 10mm from the lowest setting, so I'll try lifting the cars a lot more, but the rest of my garage (Total some 1250+ cars.) that has been specially tuned for the Nordscheife seem to manage with similar settings.

Thanks for the quick reply.

Brake before the jump if you know where the jumps are happening. Slight braking will transfer weight to the front. I do this on most cars above 550PP. But sometimes I'll hit a rumblestrip and even when one tire lifts off my car is for the most part very stable. Have you tried adding ballast and or weight position. I usually try always going for a 50/50 weight distrubition, but in some cases, such as in lower PP my NSX has no aero and stock weight disttribution of 45/55. But handles well at 500 and 549PP. My 458 Italia for 600PP I run at 46/54 with 693HP. If braking before you get air doesn't work i would try adding ballast.

Thanks for the advice, but with most of my cars don't need to brake, even for Quidlebacher Hohe. If it was only here that I had a problem I'd brake, I already need to for a couple of otherwise stable cars.

Sadly the front end is leaving the ground, mid-corner and on some straights, this makes braking impractical as it seems that even the slightest bump sees the front off the ground. Worse on some corners I can drive hard on one lap and the next time at very similar speeds the front lifts and off I go. I've now done a lot of laps around this circuit and I'm only having this problem with a very, very few cars. Which leads me to think it's the car and/or set up at fault.

2 Reasons for jumping around:

1. Weight

and/or

2. Suspension

If the suspension tuning doesnt work for you, increase the weight.

Example: A stock bugatti will do terrible on Nordschleife; it jumps all over the place and constantly spins out. In that case, tweaking the suspension will fix this. Anyways from a physics point of view, those are the only two things that can affect the jumping.

Yes the suspension should really help, but rather than blundering about making change after change, as I've been doing today. I'd hoped for a direction to go in.

That and aerodynamic (downforce).

On your SLS are you running it with a rear wing? If so try reducing the downforce or get rid of the wing completely. Also like some have said adding weight to the nose.

I have a setup for one in my tunning garage if you want to try it out :dopey:

I have three two with wing one without. I'll try weight on the wingless one tomorrow and get back.

Cheers, Byegad

the bathurst premium? Couldnt find it. But I bought the spirit type A RX7, tuned it to 550PP and I love it. Are these 2 similar? I dont think the spirit will even make 600PP

The Spirit R premium, fully broken in, at 605hp with a wing gets close enough.

Mazda RX-7 Type R Bathurst R (FD) '01 U Is the one I'm having the issues with. It's fine on Grand Valley and hopeless on Deep Forest and Nordschleife. It's not so much it will jump as it will unpredictably jump. So you go around a corner three times in a row, with consistent pace and once out of those three times it will lift the front and off I go.

I'll also try another RX7, after all there are lots, too many, of the damn things.

OK. I've tried the wingless SLS Mclaren 19" and it too takes off at all of the usual places. I've also tried playing with weight on the Bathurst and another RX7 with some improvement, but not a lot! Weight on the SLS didn't seem to make any difference, other than to make it very hard to drive on all of the other corners.

What I think I've learnt is that higher extension damping and lower compression damping help as does softer springs at the front.

Thanks Jaywalker. The SLS one looks right for the Nurb' but the Bathurst one is not specifically for that track. I can get the RX7 to work just fine everywhere else, other than Deep Forest and the Nordschleife.

I dont run wings until im over 600PP. So guess my RX7 will never make it. You should try less power? Im running 550PP at 499HP( still breaking in so its bound to go up and drop again). But I raced against my ghost M3 CSL and the two are almost similar. Just need too DTFI the new RX7
