UPDATE: Dereck Higgins has removed his original social media posts and YouTube video, sharing new information that it was unfortunately a prank designed to humiliate and embarrass him. Dereck’s updated videos have been shared below...

This is fascinating. Generally, how early/late in the game development cycle do they try to lock these things down?

Obviously this has me wondering whether GT8 is going to be PS5 only (and not PS6, if rumours are to be believed that they're already moving the wheels on that console).

I hope it is PS5 only... GT7 was cross-gen after all, and it feels like there have been few if any games that have harnessed the PS5's full potential, it's remarkable to think it's likely over halfway through its cycle.... not forgetting the fact they've just released a PRO model.

His albums sound EXACTLY like GT soundtracks. Im all for this, but I kinda hope the bring back that jazzy/lounge sound they had in GT5 & 6. Also bring back the FULLY customizable soundtrack. Keep "The Entertainer", ok whatever. Just let me change everything else around.

I agree. This guy's music sounds very similar to the GTS and GT7 menus sound. It's really cool, but I'd love GT5/GT6 type songs to return. They seem to have a massive cult following, and nothing 'quite' sounds like them... I've seen so many YouTubers using GT5's menu music for the background of their videos. For example:

A guy of caliber like Dereck lying ?
I highly doubt it... Have you not seen his video, his reaction is genuine... He is even surprised himself....


If anything, and I hope what i am saying here is wrong: but it could also be someone playing him, but then who would be so bored as to do that....??!

I think the deal is legit.
If what he says is true, which I think it is... I don't think even Sony or PD were even thinking he would be announcing it so publicly and so quickly, and so there probably was not even an NDA signed....

I can see how excited and happy Dereck is.
I am proud and happy for him.

Anyhow, I hope this is not jixing him and the contract in anyway....

His music would fit right into the GT world.

He deserves the recognition and we all deserve to hear his music, life long work.

Win win win situation...

It's just the lack of secrecy that really caught me off guard,anything videogames is very secret so i was very surprised by this,and i agree the music fits very well with gt
 
You are right, it is odd that PD not only didn't give him an NDA but actively ASKED him to make a video on said matter...but it would be extremely unethical/reputation-damaging for an established musician (even if in a niche area) to do this. It goes against the principles of being an artist.

Remember that Dereck is a gentleman of a certain age, and he is a straight shot, not the type of be aware of today's society still unsaid rules of secrecy....

Dereck probably thought that with social media and all, he is so happy to be sharing his good news to the world...

He Didn't know the importance of GT, and even less Kaz's communication style lol

He just wanted to advertise his work, that's all.

I don't think there was any wrong doing or ill intent on his part....

This news is catching everyone off guard;)

I don't think you watch the above video entirely, otherwise you would have heard that no one asked him to make the video or share the information.


He just decided to share it because he was pleasantly surprised by the situation himself.

We live in the world where sadly lawyers rule, but I for one am glad there are people like Dereck so genuine and innocent, and who just want to put good content out in the world, instead of being negative or doubting.... Even tho he was at the beginning, but that's just the normal reaction for everyone nowadays, you included....

Good info is good info... Let's just enjoy it

Dereck is just proud to be recognized for his life work....

Fantastic news.

I also don’t think an NDA is needed here. He’s been approached for his creation/music.

It’s not like he’s been given access to sensitive materials. As @CTznOfTime says they probably expected him to not even say anything.

Also, there's an error in the article: "which I take as a compliment", not complement.

I remember making some GT Style Music folders on my PS3 with some of his music included in it, then using that through the GT Games custom music options for menu/race, good times!

It's worth noting that he also mentions that he's gotten suspicious offers before and went to check to make sure they were legitimate so as I said in another thread, I don't think he'd done this if he didn't think they were the real deal (Especially as THE license holder of said music)

Ok so let's go along with this skepticism, which I usually am not a stranger of:

If the request is truly not from PD or Sony or Kaz, who would it be from then ?
Who would be so inclined to play a trick on him or even want to create fake rumors? For what purpose ?
Would this be a distraction for something else ?
Is this a trap to have Sony sign this guy ?
Is this a trap to have Sony or PD to come out to deny the situation?

If it is true, is Sony going to confirm it or will they just cancel culture Dereck ?

Getting too complicated now.
I don't want to do 4D chess... I am going to accept this news as is...

If it is not true, the one who would lose the most is Dereck...
At our expense?
 
So if it is one of the ones from the Sonicity album, which one do we think it is?
I think Polygone sounds like it would fit inside a current Gran Turismo. Basic reminds me a lot of GT1.

I watched the video and his channel and i don't see why someone would impersonate PD to troll the guy he is more of a niche artist.
I'm just.surprised that PD would tell him to make a short video about it,but Polyphony makes unexpected decisions all the time.

This is either a really bad leak of pretty much nothing of consequence in the game (some audio, which isn't a game breaking ip secret)

Or an artist has been sadly scammed, or the GT8 soundtrack will have his song in.

But it all kinda fits,the music really does fit with gt,he is(once again) a really niche artist,i don't see why the scammer would aim at someone like him with a scam that would take some effort,and gran turismo of all games to pull a scam?Why not Grand Theft Auto?

I do hope he did the due diligence of searching if the offer IS from PD.
In the worst case scenario it is a scam,hopefully PD reads this article and contact the guy,his music is good.

How would this scam work though?!


"Hey Dereck, we will give you money and a fake contract, so you can come out and let people know your music will be featured in a video game..."

What is the scammer getting out of this ??

Is Kaz going to have to pay the scammer to retract the scam ?!?

The skepticism and scam theory is even weirder than taking this news at face value.
