The Gran Turismo series features upgrades for cars that increase their engines' maximum RPM, which I'm quite sure that these upgrades came from and/or are possible in real life. Take for example, GT5. We have there the ECU upgrade, engine tuning, catalytic converter and exhaust pipes. so, my questions are...

1) how do these said upgrades actually increase the maximum RPM of an engine? (I can somehow understand the ECU and engine tuning, but not the exhuast :dunce:)

2) are there any more engine upgrades that can increase the maximum RPM of engines?

Exhaust would help raise the powerband of the engine, but not the maximum rpm.
Ad different cam allows the engine to breath at high rpm, but if you want to rev really high you have to replace the crank, rods, pistons, cam, rockers, and pretty much anything else that would break under high stress. Engine tuning in GT5 is that.

Once you can get strong enough parts, then it's just a matter of getting the fuel into the cylinder at high speed, but you will pay for high rpm power with almost nothing at the bottom of the rev range.

ECU is enough to move the rev limiter to whatever you want. Then you need the previously mentioned parts to keep it from blowing apart.

Intake and exhuast both help your engine flow more air, allowing it to rev higher and adding power. To use this new found power you must put in a new cam so you are actually making power at those higher revs.

Remove stock rev limiters and either know your limit or get a new one. As oops said, a new cam is usually necessary
