Use the radar man!!!

It seems like their are constant threads about the SR and how it is impossible to improve so I just wanted to post the single thing that helped me the most with my trek to "S" rating.

The radar. For the first day or so I ran without the radar on and was just doing average SR wise. I would occasionally miss someone and come down on them etc. Using the radar was a game changer. If you're already using it and your SR is not going up I don't know what to say, but if you are not, turn it on and you should see your SR rise.

Or use your rear view mirror and side views.
I drive with bumper cam, which has a very convenient rear view mirror and allows me to check side views / twist the side views to see my blind spot.
I do have radar on, but I find I don't rely on it too much as the range of the radar goes from nobody around you to right on your ass really quick.

As do I. But I find with a quick glance at the radar I can determine the position of other racers juxtaposed to mine much easier. Whatever works for you is great,

I've been touting radar for years. I think it's the single greatest tool for clean racing if you learn how to use it and it's scalable. GT5 had a great system and I never needed to look in the mirrors. A glance at the radar at the right time would tell me all I needed to know and I could predict the behaviour of my opponents fairly accurately as well. AC has a mod called HeliCorsa which I think is probably the best I've ever seen and it has a high level of adjustability.

The radar works pretty good for me, certainly helps to avoid coming down on someone who is just off your corner or half up on you in a turn. I find it is a bit short though for the crazy guys who try to run up on you from 3 to 4 car lengths back. I mean, i am not that slow (got down to 143.3 pretty consistent on kyoto, but on more than a few occasions i would see no one on radar, do a quick lookback (i play with chase cam) see that i should be ok and yet mid turn i am having to avoid these guys pushing me from inside.

If you want a high SR it's not difficult at all, just drive around at the back avoiding all the nonsense and have clean laps. If you do that at the back there's no pressure to put fast laps in and push harder than necessary.

Chances are, if you're up at the front your SR will take a beating every second or third race, because I don't care which SR rating you are in, there are ALWAYS dirty racers, always people that will bolt down the inside from a mile back, using you as the brakes and wiping you out in the process and somehow giving you a SR demotion and 10sec penalty.

Which part of the screen is that, and how it does look?

If you don't mind to explain a bit. ;)

It is one of the hud adjustments that you can find at the bottom right of your screen. Same place you can adjust brake bias etc. Just push left or right on the dpad once you are in the car and it will cycle through as one of the options

The Radar is a good start, however I would like to be user adjustable in terms of being able to change the distance it works over, on some circuits until someone is right on you they don't always show.

I personally like spotter tools and really do wish that PD would open up GTS to UDP apps so that we could get something like Crew Chief working for GTS.

I dread to think how slow your reactions are if you need a radar to be prepared to take avoiding action.

You're wrong. Radar is an invaluable tool for clean racers it has nothing to do with slow reactions. You can tell if someone has overlap and you have to leave them room. Or no overlap and you can run wide or dive down to the apex. If it covers enough area you can also tell if someone is about to divebomb you. All without changing your view or pressing any buttons, just a quick glance. It has nothing to do with SR and everything to do with wanting to race clean at all times, regardless of your rank and what type of lobby you are in.

EDIT: He just posted 10 minutes ago and he's banned already?:scared:. That's the second time that's happened to me...:odd::ill:

That would be awesome, considering how locked down they are keeping this title though i would be surprised.

Oh OK. Is that with the red dot in the middle? :-P

Haha yeah, that red dot is you. :)

Oh cool.

And what else should i watch on that screen?

If someone comes from behind, it shows me that as well?

Sorry, for bothering you that much. lol

Note: I configured that screen for showing the track. I want to have it as close a possible to me. The BIG track up on the right doesn't help much. lol

I'm not sure if you are busting my balls or not, but yeah give it a try and you will see. ;)

Edit: Yeah, it can be difficult to look up at that big map in an intense race that's why it's best to have the track configuration fairly memorized so you just have to worry about your line and the other racers.

This is the radar:

You are the Red arrow, other cars on track show as blue arrows.

IMO using a radar is a good thing if you are not so sure of where other guys are.
The better the radar, the most we can use it to good effect.
I personally do not use it that much (maybe I am too confident but truth to be told I am as clean as you can get and have a lot of "practice" as a backmarker so I know where others are behind me 99% of the time).
Problem is that even with the use of radar you cannot predict what others are going to do.My point is that you use the radar, you know where the other guy is and what he is doing but yet you have to guess what his next move is going to be.And in many cases they do something that you may not expect.
So imo the best thing is to actually play a lot online and practice awareness.
Both experience and awareness are the best tool one can have.

All they need is a "zoom in and out" for the radar as per GT5 which was compulsory to run in the championship I ran.

Me too, but one thing I've noticed it that the cars seem quite far away in the rear view mirror and then very close when you look back.

"Objects in the mirror may be closer than they appear":sly:

I use the radar mostly in oval racing when the margins for error are super small. On road courses I prefer to use the in car mirrors (because I drive from first person).
