If you have seen Top Gear they have "Star in a reasonable priced car" where they race around the top gear test track as fast as they can obviously. Since there is no Suzuki Leona I used a Peugeot 106 Rallye.

Rules
Peugeot 106 Rallye only
No mods except a roll cage as there is one used in the show
Oil change is acceptable
Driving aids off as the car does not have TC or ASM
Track Tsukuba circuit

Time
1. Kurei---1:12.179
2. Veyron1001---1:12.718
3. Ev0 4 drifter---1:12.945

they use a chevrolet lacetti now :) the liana got retired (except for when f1 drivers are on) ill have a blast at this either way 👍

current fastest is 1.12.957, but i might be able to wring a bit more out of it :) are there any rules on tyres? im on s2's at this point in time, but would assume top gear would have used the best road tyres available (as such equivalent to S3's)

Just my opinion, but I think the tires should be N1 for more realism. And the oil change shouldn't be "acceptable," as it will give those that use it an advantage. Either require it or ban it. I say ban it (I don't have the game in right now to check, but you can buy the car new, right?). I'll take a crack at this tomorrow.

you can ONLY buy this car new iirc it ups the power from 103bhp to 109bhp, so an increase of 6bhp which, lets face it, even on a car as light as this it won't make a hugely significant difference i.e wont lower your time by half a second

I've always wanted GTP to put something like this together officially, but this looks fun for the time being

Kurei / 1'12.179

a 1:12.1 is a little suspicious as my best is a 1:12.9xx with very late braking and ideal drive line (still trying to improve) and you destroyed it by 8 tenths.

You know, sometimes people are just faster than you. There are a lot of really good GT4 players on these forums. How do you even know that your line is "ideal", anyway? And what's the point of this challenge if you're just going to shoot down all the fast times? Kurei has proven himself as a verified, fast racer, and I'm sure that is his actual time.

I'll give it a try in a moment and see what I can come up with. If I can't come up with anything much below a 1'13, I'll agree with you that he may have used S3s or other mods.

EDIT: On my first lap, oil change, no roll cage, I got a 1'12.322. Kurei's time is probably correct. Is the roll cage required?

EDIT 2: Second lap, with a roll cage, was a 1'11.982, and quite a bit of room still to improve. Sorry if I sounded harsh. :guilty:

EDIT 3: After a lot more laps, the best one is a 1'11.879. I could get a 1'11.7xx, but that would be a perfect lap for me, and would be pretty difficult to do. If it helps, I'm using only second and third gear, and my splits were T1-16.924 (saw a .842 :banghead:) and T2-37.974 (I think? The .974 is right but I can't remember the second bracket.).

I won't knock Kurei's times, he's an exceptional driver and the amount of feedback he gives the tuners to help us put out better rides is invaluable. And Austin's proven that your time might be good, but not great. BTW, Nice 1'11 with the Pug there Austin. 👍

Oops... realized that I forgot to fit the rollcage now that I have seen this thread again.

Anyway, best time was 1:12.580 with the DFP. I'll give it another shot tomorrow with a rollcage fitted. Fun little car though. :)

Edit: Fastest time is now 1:12.420

can we go at the track a couple of times, or do we have to do the 6 practice laps then a real lap thing?

S--t, I did 27 laps total. :D

I applied the rollcage and went back and did a few more laps... the best I could manage out of it was a 1:12.420. I bet I could whittle off another 2 tenths of a second, but it would probably take me another 50 laps to do it. I wish I had that sort of time...

My time is real, however I will admit that I did not save the replay (forgot to do so and realized it too late), but as other's have said there's no reason to knock it as Austin went even faster than I did with some good practice 👍, heck I may give this another go tomorrow to see what can be pulled (and I'll be sure to save the proof)

I like the idea of this challenge, but I think there is a more suitable car out there, I'll look around tomorrow and see if I can find anything worth suggesting

I think there might be a better car out there too. Would anyone happen to know what engine the Top Gear Lacetti has in it? It seems to have a lot of options ranging from 90-something HP to 120-something HP. I'll search around on the game tonight to see if I can find any suitable models, though. Great challenge, by the way!

As far as finding a more appropriate car for this challenge...

"The Top Gear ‘Reasonably Priced Car’ is the Lacetti CDX saloon powered by a 1.8 litre, 119 horsepower, 16-valve engine..."

Elsewhere in Wikipedialand...

...weight 2756 lb (1250 kg)

Honda Accord Coupe (US) '88
Legendary: No
Drive: FF
Power: 118BHp Weight: 1220Kg
Power To Weight: 10.3390
Buy: 9,099Cr(U) Sell: 2,274Cr

Pretty close...

One quick note to add as well; in the show, the lap starts from a dead stop, not from a roll like it is in Tsukuba. To make it more true to life, think we should drive up to the start line, stop, and then punch it? Just a thought.

After half an hour session : 1'12.720 (lap 5)

current time: 1'12.436

nice to see that Austin is managing himself :D

Hmm... I suppose you have a point there.

??
did anyone say the track? i might take this on

and WHEN did they start hauling Bowties over to the UK? (even if they're rebadged Daewoos)

Well, maybe if you staunchly adhere to that, but this car actually has very little understeer and no wheelspin. It's really great fun. 👍 Although depending on what veyron1001 does, it may become irrelevant soon...

The car responds very well for being FWD. I found that you don't even need to use the brakes for the sweeper corners. The last turn before heading onto the start/finish straightaway simply requires a lift of the gas and a sharp right turn on the wheel. The car will find its way around the corner fairly well. :)
