Using a standard DS3 controller with GT6

It seemed in GT5 that it was necessary to use a wheel rather than the controller to drive effectively in Nascar races and possibly a few others. Does anyone know if they've made an effort to eliminate that bias for those of us who can't afford to buy the wheel/pedal assembly?

There hasn't been any news in that regard, it's very likely that there haven't been any changes made. The most we got was the sensitivity settings that were given to us in an update for GT5. Besides that there's not much they can do.

If you are into racing games you should get a wheel, there really is not much they can do to help the ds3 out.

Just like a flight game you can use which ever you have available but it is better with a joystick.

Making the thumb sticks stiffer, or giving them more resistance, would make a world of difference.

Ya but that is an aftermarket option. PD can't do do anything about that.

Edit- actually OP I have seen aftermarket stuff that attaches to the stock joysticks for greater precision. I don't have any links unfortunately but it is something you should check up on.

Where can I get that done or do any aftermarket controllers come with stiffer sticks?
I am sure there must be some aftermarket ones with stiffer sticks, have seen ps3 controllers specifically make for racing games perhaps those would be the best bet?

Then of course there are those aftermarket accessories that attach right on to the stick itself that are made specifically for fps, racing ect. Much more ergonomic and give you much more control from what I hear.

I have them and was never able to get them to feel any better than the regular sticks. If anything they made it worse since the analog sticks are so loose feeling, putting more weight up top and further from the fulkrum just made things worse.

I bought a G25 a few years ago for $200 and I thought it was a giant waste of money.

It just sat on my desk collecting dust but then I got GT5 and it became one of the best gaming investments I'd ever made.

Did you know a guy called chillicoke makes an adapter so you can mount a full sized wheel? I had a Grant wheel laying around and just slapped that on raised the ffb to 10 and it is great.

My Logitech GT is in the closet somewhere. Used it a handful of times after building my own stand for it. Now the stand is gone and I want to bring the GT out.

A specifically made racing controller.

I've seen that controller before. I'd be curious to know if anyone here at GTP has one and any feedback on it. I say curious because I have custom rig with a G27 for myself, but a couple of casual players I know might be interested. Anyone tried it?

I had a friend of mine try it out, I forget who though... they said it was horrible though, that the wheel dial thing was pretty ok, but the "pedal" buttons were horrible.

That is a shame it looks like it would do rather well.

Hold the left stick all the way forward, that gives you resistance.

I have one, used it once. Not very good. There's a switch on the back, it switches compatiblity between GT and forza.

Logitech Driving Force Wireless was a good budget wheel, not sure if they still make it though.

Wireless, but still needs a power cable

Personally, I've been using DS controllers ever since GT1. As I've mentioned in other posts, I use both analog sticks for driving, and so far it works perfectly for me. Some people say it's dumb, but I've been playing like that for many years and I'm completely used to the feel. I can easily modulate the brake and gas pedal, as well as the steering. Much better than using the R2 and L2 triggers.

I've played many racing games before, but I find Gran Turismo the only one were they have made a huge effort so it feels as perfect as possible when using a controller. Other games feel completely dead and unresponsive.

usb rc controller should work. I tried to find one a couple years back, but couldn't find any.

A mate had very similar for PS1, it was the ducks nuts.

I was able to drive effectively with both. Maybe you just need to adjust the controller setting because if the physics are more realistic, I'd feel that it only promotes driving with a steering wheel set up.

I used a DS3 the entire time I played GT4 and for about a year after I got GT5. You should really be using both sticks rather than the bumpers imo to get the best experience when using a controller. I have a DFGT which I found for $80 new so I've been using that. I'll be celebrating GT6 with the purchase of a new wheel though ;)

I've always wanted to get a racing wheel for Gran Turismo, but I don't have much space to work with. I usually sit or lay on my bed when I play games anyway.

I would like to get one with some sort of stand so I can sit on the edge of my bed or in a chair and use it, but I have yet to really search for one.

I don't think there is a massive disadvantage to those who use a DS3. I think it's wayyyy easier to control oversteer with, and will actually give you feedback when you hit ripple strips ( my G27 won't ), in short Ive fallen back on the DS3 after buying a G27 because it feels better most of the time & is more convenient. I think there is an advantage to be had for those who use wheels and are good with them but for an average driver the DS3 is fine.
