According to the article in Automobile Magazine, the legendary Skyline GT-R is coming to a close. All hopes and dreams about GT-R coming to America wil be all gone. It will follow the same fate like the Mitsubishi GTO/3000GT and the FTO. Here is the article by Peter Num.

"This Summer, Nissan closes the curtain on a legend when it ceases production of the six-cylinder Skyline GT-R. Since its rebirth in 1989, Nissan's thundering 2.6 liter and supercoupe has spent a lot of time racing in Germany's famed Nurburgring Nordschleife circuit. So when Nissan deceided on a celebratory 1,000 unit run-out version of the GT-R, the Nurburgring name came up. I truth, sales of the GT-R have been slow of late Japan (maybe folks are waiting for the next edition, previewed at last years Tokyo show), but when Nissan announced a last-call edition of the car, with the a blueprinted N-1-class racing engine, gold paint & $47,000 sticker price, the entire run of "Nur" GT-R's sold out on the very first day."

So the rumor 'cutting off the GT-R' is true, all the (Concept GT-R) cars that have been planning by Nissan will go into a drain. So the 350Z/Fairlady Z will be the Nissans primier Japanese sportscar.

All hope are not yet gone, maybe they'll change their minds.

DON'T PANIC.

They're just finalising the run on the R34 edition.

The GT-R is being split out from the Skyline name plate and will become a model in its own right.

We will need to wait a little while for it though...

Well I thought it will be the end. I was just shocked when I saw the (mini) article.

Exactly! I passed a cover shot of a new Skyline (concept?) and it looked like crap! I thought it was 350z crossed with a cadillac!

Anyways, someone should find some pics and post em

I find it interesting. It's a bit like something a comic book hero would drive, but it's mean-looking, rather brutish. But again, it's not so much how it looks but how it performs. The R34 was -- in all honesty -- quite ugly. Too overdone, too much cladding, too much spoilerage. Countach 25th Anniversary anyone? But that 2.6L I-6 couldn't be beat, nor could the perfect driftability.

I don't think Nissan would settle for just a V8. I've read about how a V10 or twin-turbo V8 is occupying their conversations. Still, the end result will still be in the super-car territory. That is, at around US$100,000. Now *that* is a point of controversy. The Skyline has always been expensive, but to separate into the G35/Skyline for less than US$50,000 (close to the "normal" GT-R price), then jump to something on the high side of double-price is just not right. The mostly-affordable supercar is no more.
