Venturing into Sport Mode

Good day ladies and gents. As the title says, I'm thinking about venturing into online races and sport mode. However, most of the races/racing I see posted online are of drivers not using any type of aids other than ABS. Now this might seem like a naive question but are most, if not all online players driving without aids? (please no jokes). The reason I ask this is I am a novice to GT Sport and I haven't quite adapted to driving without at least having TCS on. And I don't want to get online only to not have any enjoyment and also ruin other peoples' races.

V/R,

Keith.

Don't worry.

Traction control and stability management systems are designed to help you avoid losing control of your car and will reduce the chance of you ruining other people's races.
Use the driver assists that are available if you don't feel comfortable racing without them.

However, as your skills improve you will most likely find that these assists are holding you back. This is the stage where you should start practicing without them if you want to make further progress in terms of pace.

Actually, you should start practicing without assists right away. But do it on your own, because learning car control often includes making lots of mistakes such as spinning out, killing loads of cones and hitting lots of barriers

I don‘t use any aids but ABS which sometimes leads to throwing away good results (or a win yesterday) but for me it‘s the most fun and I hate the unpredicability of i.e. TCS that cuts power when you already countersteered oversteer and thereby throws you off

Starting at the bottom you won't need to use aids (if you don't want to. You just race how you normally would and anticipate all the kinds of people in online racing. Sport mode works where you race until you find your level of racing, racing against similar opponents.

Thanks guys. DriftMethod you are correct. I was seeing a lot of negative comments about people using aids. I just want to be respectful. After all, we are spending our hard-earned money on this and I would hate to be "that guy"!

Most top guys don't use aids. But then again its mostly the top guys whose videos are on youtube.

My remarks below are mainly based on Gr. 3 cars, since TCS has a large effect on driveability of the cars and ultimately skill required to drive them at speed. Also, speaking of racing compared to a single time trial lap.

Guessing on numbers, but there are maybe 50 "Aliens" worldwide that can compete with each other. Within this group, TCS is a disadvantage.

Outside that group, the disadvantage of TCS starts to disappear and turns into an advantage. I believe this crossover is still in the low/mid DR S range. Looking at DR S stats, this crossover occurs somewhere in the top 1000 drivers worldwide.

My opinion is that for the very large majority of drivers, TCS will help drive more consistently, safer around others, and/or faster. That makes better racing. Also why I have no problem using aids and can find no reason that other people should feel bad in any way for using them.

Agreed. I use tcs2 and abs, no shame in that. You go out to race using the biggest advantage you have. In time you improve by learning to race without aids to make you faster.

All great advice here. Use what you want until you’re comfortable. Depending on the car/track, I turn them on/off appropriately. Practice practice practice. I am by far, not very good, as my stats will show, but I like to race against others and try to do so as safely and clean as possible. Sometimes the aids help me achieve that objective.

Go ahead and use whatever aids you want to, but one thing that is absolutely necessary above all else is that you have fun. :D I have raced a lot of sport mode races, 10 wins, 21 poles, and 20 fast laps I think and I use TCS on 2 and ABS on weak when racing. I practice without TCS and always keep ABS on, during races your tires are going to wear (during race C) which will affect rear traction. I see many, many players using all of the aids so you are not alone in the least if you use them. The one thing nobody has talked about yet are the braking and apex cones, corner markers, (blue circles with arrow pointing down, these are what you aim the car at for corner entry, apex, and exit) and the driving line. I see a lot of the aliens that have the cones and driving markers on, even driving line thru the corner, Im not sure how you turn on the limited driving line though, but dont forget those are also aids you can use if desired. One word of caution though, the cones get hit during the races, even the ones on straightaways which Im not sure how that happens (surely most can keep control of the car in a straight line :confused::confused::confused:) but if you rely only on braking cones you will soon come to a corner and realize you are going way too fast because someone killed your braking cones and you missed your braking point. Make sure you are good and familiar with the car and track you are racing on so you can minimize trouble when this happens. The cones can also throw you off line, off the track, or even cause a spin when you hit one laying o the track. Enjoy!!!
