This is honestly driving me up the wall.

I'm trying to transfer files from my computer to another PC, but instead of going smoothly, it's ending up going very slow (around 30-45kb) and will even drop the connection after a while.

I haven't been able to transfer anything to my 3DS either, due to this.

Does anyone know what the issue could be? I've tried disabling Remote Differential Compression, and had no luck with that either.

Any solution to this would be greatly appreciated as this is really frustrating, thanks.

Ethernet does not mean high speed transfer.

There are things to take into account.

Network Drivers
Windows Settings.
Network Firewalls
Internet Security
Driver Settings
Router
Router Config

When I had a ethernet drive I had transfer speeds of about 40MB/s

Exactly what connection are you using and how have you set it up?

As far as I know, my network driver is an Atheros AR9285 Wireless Network Adapter.

I don't have any WLAN cards installed right now either, though I would like to add one at some point.

For my connection, i'm using WLAN on a homegroup with Windows 7. I'm currently hooked up to a Virgin Media Superhub 2 wirelessly, aswell.

As for settings, I only currently have Microsoft Security Essentials which I don't think would tamper with the internet connection. I haven't changed anything with Windows Firewall though, as this Windows 7 was a recent re-install.

I tried leaving the homegroup and try another one, but that didn't seem to make any difference. Nor did the sharing settings make any difference.

I've had bad experiences with Atheros drivers, as they would lock the system up with any heavy traffic. So i've pretty hesitant with installing any kind of driver from them.

What kind of Wifi is it? 802.11g is about 54Mbps, 802.11n is about 150Mbps. So you should be getting 7MB to 20MB transfer speeds.

Do you have another device to test with? Then you can find out if the sending server or the receiving one is the problem.

OP already mentions trying to send to a PC and to a Nintendo 3DS.

Think it is the 3DS

Techmoan who done a review on the 3DS stated the wifi is slow.

Sorry to bump this, but the issue has now been fixed.

As it turns out, the wifi card I had was a really old one and was pretty bad with network transfers.

I managed to resolve this by taking it out and replacing it with a newer WLAN card, which seems to be 802.11ac. Everything is plain sailing now. Thanks for the help, it's appreciated!
