Video card shopping.

Ugh. I hate my video card with a passion. Considering it's a Intel i810. (intergrated)

Anyways, Im looking for a new one. I want to pay anywhere from $50-$100. But, I have alot of questions about video card themselves.

1. If I can find a empty PCI or AGP slot, and install the video card there, can I redirect that video card to go through my monitor?

2. AGP? PCI? which ones better?

3. Is it possible to even install a video car on a computer with intergrated grapihcs on a motherboard?

Sorry if my questions seem complicated. :odd:

Thanks,
~Akira.

1. yes it will auto go to the vid card

2. agp 8x is the best pci is barely be produced now

3. yes

1. Yes, you will be able to select it. Most of the time the BIOS is set to use PCI/AGP if present, but if it isn't you can change it.

2. AGP 8x is best, but your mobo might not have a AGP slot. One of the computers in the house has intergrated i810 video, but it doesn't have any AGP slots. I'm trying to get a new card for it, but it's going to have to be PCI. Generally, PCI is more expensive, and the perfomance is less, but anything is better than intergrated.

3. Yes.

Here is a PCI card I would suggest. Of course, if you have AGP certainly get AGP. This is only if you don't.

First you have to make sure your motherboard has an AGP slot. Have you ever opened your computer? PCI slots are long white plastic connectors. AGP slots look like brown PCI slots that have been turned around and moved away from the side of the case. They're all in a row. You only have one AGP slot. Additionally, most motherboards that have onboard video will not have an AGP slot.

The best PCI video card you're going to find won't come close to the performance you are expecting, as the PCI bus just isn't fast enough.

In all honesty, motherboards with integrated parts are much slower. A nice motherboard coupled with a good AGP video card, PCI sound, PCI network, and PCI ATA133 hard drive controller would be really nice, though kind of expensive.

Here. I snapped an image of my computer.

Guess it is a PCI slot?

damn...no agp for you. You'll have to get a pci card :(.
the Radeon 9200 shouldn't be hard to find in PCI, but I've seen 3rd party manufacturers making the 9600 as in PCI format as well - try to get the 9600

Tiger Direct blows. All of my buddies say so. Try finding a [legal] computer warehouse store. Usually they're near airports, i think, and seel parts for dirt cheap.

I dunno. You can usually get parts around 15% off. I got a GeForce 4 5200 for $85.

Just cuz your buds say it sucks make's it true wtf.

I know this thread is old and all, but...

I have to reply in defense of TigerDirect. Now, I have heard one bad thing about them. Some say they sell your email address, which allows them to sell parts cheap, although I have to disagree because I get no spam. They deffinatly are legal. Every part I have bought for the last three computers I have made has all come from TigerDirect, and I have had no problems. As a matter of fact, I'm about to order some RAM as soon as I get home from Florida.

Another place you might try for computer parts is NewEgg. They have some good deals. When shopping TigerDirect make sure to look for rebates. That is one of the best things about them, all there rebates.

Yes, a PCI card will never compare to an AGP one, but if it's all you can get then, okay.

I would post some other good PCI but I'm in Florida using my grandparents WebTV(like a 13.3KBps modem - eek). I will do so when I get home as I will be browsing online anyways.
