Recently I've been downloading Mazda videos, trying to rebuild the huge collection I had before the CD writer screwed up.

On some of them, when I try to play them, it says "error loading codec" or that there's something wrong with the codec. What causes this, and how do I fix it?

I've DLed some big videos only to find out that they won't play because of this problem. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Ryan

Thanks man.

Yea I know it should be in the computers forum. I just wanted some quick answers, and to get them you have to post in the rumble strip. :)

On the Divx site...where do I DL this? There's like video software and all kinds of stuff...what should I get?

I'm confused!

How "big" would these videos have to be before they need that second option? Cause I have 5.0.5, and I am downloading around 30-50 MB DivX "episodes" of a cartoon and they go for about 22 minutes...

Thanks VZ. I was there but it didn't look right.

I'm DLing the ad-free one. I don't need anymore ads coming up.

Shame on you!

Consider it moved. :)

Hah.

Well the DviX fixed some of em, but other ones won't play on DviX and it's not fixed on WMP or QT, so I donno. Atleast it fixed some.

wow, i'm glad i saw this before it was moved, i've been having the same problems with initial d episodes...sometimes you moderators need to lighten up, it's not like someones life depends on making sure no computer related threads are in the rumble strip (but every other topic in the world is, lol)

I'm a mod, and I posted this thread.

Though another excuse for me posting it in "the wrong place" was that I rarely go into the computers forum.

It doesn't matter though.

Oh totally. But it was fun to be able to poke fun at MazKid! We do try to make sure that the right threads are in the right forums though. It makes things neater, and easier for new/infrequent visitors to find what they're looking for.

Hey I coulda and might have moved it after the questions were answered. :) You didn't give me the chance Giles. Ohh well. Who really cares?

Alright, starting DL. I'll have to finish after school.

Thanks GTO.

PS - The thing in your thread, I was just joking and having fun. Sorry.

Help!!

I got the Nimo DLed(after 1 failed DL...), and I tried to install it. I had a bunch of "Could not over write file" messages, and when it finished I tried to open up the videos that didn't work before, and it locked up both DviX and WMP. I donno how to fix it...

Please help!

ouch...try uninstalling NIMO...what media player do you have? I know my WMP 9 downloads codecs automatically...if your using WMP go to Tools...options....when thw indow pops up click the player tab and check the box that says download codecs automatically.....like I said I have WMP 9 so im not sure if it will work for you...if that doesn;t work I'll upload some codecs to my web site and you can DL em....:)

Well I meant that instead of saying "cannot find codec" it just locks. It still works fine with the movies that played correctly before.

I do have series 9, and one of those update messages came up, but it said that there weren't any updated codecs or something as I was looking through WMP. In the past I never updated...ohh well.

If I go through Nimo's install program, find the files that don't overwrite correctly, and either delete them or temporarily re-name them, would Nimo install the new ones?

Uhh ohh. Now I totally can't play my videos. I thought I could. The thumbnail in the folder comes up, but when I try to play the video WMP locks.

CRAP!!!

I E-mailed it to you already. Unless it didn't go through...AOL does that. Hang on.

Well is it possible to just delete the problem files and reinstall them using Nimo? If I set back windows I think it would mess up some of my other stuff.

Thanks for helping.

I decided to do the windows restore thing. It's actually a great feature. Reset it back to last sunday and I'm back in biz.

Well I'd like to have them...worst case is I reset windows again which actually isn't very disruptive.

If you can, put the files in a zip, that way I can extract them directly to the codec folder.
I could put the zip on the GTP Gallery so that other people could use it too.

Thanks.

its about 10 megs..... the ones I included are the codecs I use....so far I havent found a file I cant play....

if you want me to find specific codecs for you post the entire filenames of the file you cant play and I'll try to dig up specific codecs
