Virus Help

Since I had this computer at Christmas 2004 I've only had one virus problem and emad helped me sort that out without much trouble.

Now I have another one...I've used Nod32, Spybot, Spyware Blaster and Lavasoft Ad-Aware SE but nothing is working. If I knew what it was called then I would search around on google for some answers but I can't even find that out. Firefox is taking an age to load up so I have my suspicions that it's connected with that.

Here is a screenshot. It's the red error icon in the bottom corner with "Virus Alert!" and the pop-up next to it.

That looks like spyware to me.

Try running your cleaning applications in Safe Mode.

Also, open RegEdit, and go to HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run and check off the items in there against your knowledge of the system, and any help that you can get (from an alternative machine, perhaps) from Google.

I tried starting in safe mode but it still showed up in the sys tray, nothing seemed out of place in RegEdit.

I found out that it's called "spywarequake" and downloaded a program called XoftSpy that is meant to remove it, it found some spyware but when it tried to remove the thing it's designed to remove...it didn't work.

Would Hijack This be useful? I don't really know how to use it, would I need to send you the logfile or something?

do a ctrl + alt + delete and go into processes and see if theres any abnormal programs running in the background. u need to find a way to indentify the virus/spyware before u can do anything to get rid of it.

Ok I got rid of it. After I found it was called "spywarequake" I was able to find this link and it walked me through getting rid of it.

One last thing, Windows Disk Cleanup never seems to work. It gets to about 3 bars full and the text says "Calculating space to free" or something but no matter how long I leave it I have to end up cancelling it. I use other clean-up programs so it's not like I need it, it just seems strange it doesn't work.
