Virus? Images/Videos trouble loading

So I'm getting a little fed up lately and I'm not sure what to blame. I pay for 20 mbps download internet and, according to the companies website speed test, I am receiving all of it and a bit more. But lately it's been having trouble loading images, and HD videos have to stop and buffer which is really annoying.

Should I be blaming this on the internet, or should I look deeper? (virus?)

Some ISPs throttle bandwidth for sites like YouTube and Netflix but they won't admit it. I'm betting that's your problem.

That said, a virus scan every once in a while is never a bad idea.

As @TB suggests, I think you're being throttled. That's exactly what I had going on earlier this year in June.

Update: tech call was obviously no help. So I did some searching for people complaining about the same issue and possible throttling. I came across a guy that said that the new modems the ISP uses were allowing them to do this. I had recently had a small connection issue (couple months ago) and for no reason the guy said he was sending a new modem. I hooked it up when it got here and suddenly here are these issues.

So, instead of sending the old modem back, I held onto it just in case. Well, just to see what would happen, I just hooked up the old modem and what do you know, problem fixed. (for now) Hmmm.

Could be also the IP address.

For a while I had issues with an IP address.

Some sites would not load at all, went into my modem and clicked disconnect, then reconnect.

Everything worked fine, when I had this issue I noted the IP address at the time and it was always the same IP address that was given to me for that session.

I would seriously consider buying my own modem, especially if they're pulling those kinds of shenanegans. Compare what you're paying now in rental fees with the cost of buying -- you're see that the cost of buying your own is about ten months' rental.

I'm moving in about 4 months where I will be able to get 75mb internet for the same price from a better company. So I'm hoping this modem switch will hold up until then. So far so good.

Problem has not come back after switching back to the old modem. I sent the new modem back to them and told them they can keep it.
