It's not a Polo. They may share some bits and pieces, since the current generation's Gol is loosely based on the last gen's Polo (PQ24), but they are, essentially, different cars. The confusion, I guess, is because VW insists on making every model look quite similar.
In Brazil (as well as most latin american countries) the Gol reaches for a different price range/audience, although the line up has changed a lot in the last few years. The Polo (not the same generation available in Europe) is no longer for sale, so VW's portfolio is made of (in Brazil):
Up < Gol < Fox < Polo (when available) < Golf
