VW has adbandoned plans to produce the Ferrari-rivalling W12 supercar that holds the world record for distance covered in a 24-hour period - 7740 kays at an average speed of 333.891km/h. A suitable assembly location proved hard to find, but VW also believed that the car had passed its sell-by date - despite a major restyling that concentrated on improving the aerodynamics of the coupe shown at the 2001 Tokyo show.

Bugger.

I think VW needs to prove itself one car lineup at a time. For a company that's had a grass-roots image until about 10-15 years ago, buliding supercars with an outrageous engine design will take a little time.

But the critics seem to like the W8 engine; maybe in a few years the W12 will show up...but for now; Lamborghini and Audi are the flagship brands of the VW-Audi Group.

Jeezes, that's too bad...

Well, maybe it would've been too much anyway... VW was about to have 3 supercars, which is probably too many for a car company like itself (Lamborghini Murcielago [or however you spell the blasted name], VW W12, and Bugatti Veyron).

Um... the pheton is soon to come out... It has the W12 engine in it

It is typical. You will be seeing this happen over and over, we are in a ressesion.
