Does anyone on here like the Vector W8 Twin Turbo? I love the edgy looks and V8 engine in the back mounted transverse.

What do you think?

And If you don't like it what would you buy from the same year?

Play Gran Turismo 2 and see.

Love the futuristic looks, love the performance, one of the best US made supercars.

Black = Mysterious, White = Techno, Yellow = Cool (try GT2 and see).

Well back on its time it really looks futuristic. BTW when is the Vector W8 came out?

Vector; one of America's few attempts at supercar-dom in the late 1980's/early 1990's. Honestly, very few of any manufacturer made it out of this era. Porsche's 959 was a stillborn; Yamaha's car never went anywhere. The Diablo almost didn't get made. The prototype-only Audi Avus. A slew of Bugatti's. Detomaso; Isdera & Italdesign's extremely modified one-off's; and one of the best: Jag XJ220.

So, what of the Vector W8? It was probably good, but who could tell if no one bought it? Styling & layout reminiscent of the Countach, but so were most in this class. Nothing wrong with it, IMO, just no longer here to compare it to anything. :burnout:

...and if I remember a Car & Driver article, extremely unreliable.

The automotive world is littered with failed super car projects, from both small and big makers.

It looks like it's crashed into a car parts shop, and bits have stuck to it! And what's with the mirrors? They look like they're falling off!

I think it's trying to look like a Lotus Esprit, whilst at the same time trying not to look like a Lotus Esprit.

And a 3 speed auto? Don't make me laugh! Trying to control that much power and torque through a slushbox must be a nightmare!

1998-1993, $450,000 to spend? Got to be an early Diablo, or a Porsche 959, or, with those numbers and a twin-turbo V8, I think you're looking straight down the tailpipes of a Ferrari F40.

Which would you rather have, a W8 or an F40? It would be the F40 for me!

Yeah, but you're supposed to choose a 1988 - 1993 car!

Hi, I registered just so I could reply to this topic. The reason the W8 has a 3-speed auto transmission is because Gerald Wiegert wanted the car to have a very precise shifting system. The gearbox is actually very smooth. The reason it is able to have only the 3 gears instead of 5 or 6 is because the gears are very far apart. I'm not using any official documentation on this, but the reason the 3 work so well is because the gears switch at like 60 mph and 90 mph, so you are usually running in first gear nearly the entire time you are driving. It actually enables the car to be alot faster than what it could be with a 6 speed manual... Plus, there is the fact that you are practically laying down in the car, have extremely poor visibility at what is behind or next to you, and because of that, the last thing you need is gears to have to fiddle with when you are trying to not kill yourself. :)
