Hello fellow GTP residents.
I've been here for years now but haven't posted as much as I use to lately, I still browse daily though in my obsessive eagerness to have GT5 in my hands. lol
Anyway, I am offering members the chance to advertise on our team for a very low cost, the benefits?
-Your user name (or real name) on two sides of the car.
-A "Thank you GT Planet" sign on my website with names who supported me.
-Three "giveaways" for our sponsors. (cool little items)
-Two free tickets in 2011 to the event of choice (that we are running at!)
The cost?
$10.00...aka ten bucks! I provide the vinyl (perk of having more vinyl than I do money )
How to pay? It's simple, PayPal! http://www.paypal.com PM me for the e-mail address.
I would offer you all what I offer large business sponsors but I don't think an individual would benefit much from it.
So, who am I?? Right?
Well my name is Simon and I am twenty two years old. I started racing way back when, it's my Dad's fault really. He brought home a few posters and magazines with sports car racing in it and I was done for. My life has been insane since as I'm sure I'm not the only one here that has the same issue.
I started racing karts and immediately knew that is what I wanted to do. I won my first race I competed in and set a track record. I was quite happy. I continued racing karts here and there and started with cars when I was fifteen. I started with simple SCCA Solo 2 (autocross) here in the US while building an SCCA road race car. When I was sixteen, I took my SCCA ITC Honda Civic out for my first track event in a car at Road Atlanta.
Since I've done numerous Solo events, track days, and test days. I competed in the Red Bull F1 DS two years in a row, got to drive a GT3 Cup car, was invited to run the 24 Hours of Dubai, as well as the 2007 and 2008 Petit Le Mans (obviously my funding didn't work out), and a lot of other cool invites and opportunities.
I am lucky, I'm not as high up as I want but I know that with continuous work and effort I will be there, and that's why for 2011 I am going to work like no other year with my goal of racing at the 2011 Petit Le Mans. Racing is not just something I like. It's truly my passion. I think, sleep, eat racing. Literally. Moving up the racing ladder isn't just a cool dream in my head, it's the only way of life. My favorite quote that explains what I am talking about is the famous Steve McQueen quote from "Le Mans"
"When you're racing, it's life. Anything that happens before or after is just waiting. "
Although it's life for me driving or not. lol
So what do I race?
Currently I OWN a Dodge Neon ACR. We all know though most drivers pay and rent rides, this is my personally owned car and one car I KNOW I will be racing. Yes, the Neon is a laughable car, but the ACR is a pretty impressive little guy.
This particular one has been a race car since new, never a street car. It raced in the Neon Challenge (support series for large events such as Indy and PSCR events) as well as SCCA SSC competition. It won a divisional championship in 1998 and was sponsored by the The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
Other cool notes about this car was that it was on a Canadian Postage stamp, supposedly they made some stamps with race cars on them for marketing an event that year and this particular car was chosen to be on one. It was recently in AutoWeek magazine in 2009.
I will be racing it in SCCA STU competition, which is a pretty intense class. Right now the car is under prepared but the winter will give me time to catch up some to STU rules. My main passion however is endurance racing and I believe this car has potential to be a strong running car for endurance races as its past has proven. It's fast and reliable. There is currently a very low mileage motor in it with no race miles yet built by a Mopar specialist.
So I offer this to any members interested. Racing is an expensive sport and I GREATLY appreciate any support I get. I never just say thanks and disappear. If you're local to an event, feel free to come to the track and hang out, if it's a track day I can throw a passenger seat in and offer rides, you name it. I want this to be a real personal experience, not just giving some guy ten dollars. As I said, racing is my passion and anyone who helps support that passion usually gets a lot more than their initial investment back. 👍
I will get some updated photos of the car and post them.
