Me and my freind made some recordings, when they where saved they came out as wav files and they are huge, a 3 minute file is like 30mb, is it possible to convert them to MP3 and make the file size smaller?

I was about to suggest audacity too. It's pretty easy to convert them. Just open it up, then click export as mp3. Then it'll ask you locate the mp3 encoder if you haven't already. A LAME mp3 encoder is the one to download btw.

Yeah its going good, converted perfectly! and ive been playing around with some of the other features! its like photoshop for music.:D

convert to .ogg!

.wav PCM fixed-point files are CD-quality, 1411kbps. that's why they're so huge.

or use FLAC lossless compression, but you will need the install from HERE

miles better than any MP3 or other lossy format, the file sizes are bigger but the quality is the same as the wav. :)

Yeah....but can he accomidate FLAC given his space?

ogg has really good quality at super-high compression. especially when compared to other codecs.
