Preface: This is not a thread meant to help you get the gold or improve your Circuit Experience times, but you can discuss that if you want.
First of all, I would call call myself a relatively newer generation GT fan. I've never owned PS1 and PS2, but I played some GT games on my friend's Playstation. I liked them but I never really experienced them in a proper way. Later, I bought a PS3 and GT 5 was the first GT game I owned and I've been a big fan ever since. I even platinumed GT 6.
So, since GT 7 release date was announced, I've started playing GT Sport more often. Mostly because of hype, but also to finish some stuff that I've left unfinished. Some in-game achievements and, the most important of all, getting the last trophy which is the "Ultimate Driver", ie. the 50th level one. That will involve some rubber band afk-ing on Blue Moon Bay and grinding the Nostalgic 1979 Circuit de la Sarthe event, and, eventually, I will get it done.
In the meantime, I've looked at my Circuit Experience times to see what times some of my friends have achieved and noticed that my lap times that I've set in the early 2018 (or later, depending on when the track was added to the game) are gonne from the leaderboard. I figured that is due to some patches that changed the physics of the game, but no problem, my best times are still saved up there next to the medal times. I did my best at the time, and I've beaten gold times by several seconds on most tracks. So I tried setting some new times for the leaderboard, got on Interlagos without any practice and... I absolutely smashed my previous best time by almost two seconds on the first try! A few tries later and the difference was over three seconds.
And that's how the idea for this thread was born and I'm getting to the point of this thread. Many of you finished the Circuit Experience, many of you probably got gold since the challenge is vastly easier than in previous games, and you moved on and went to play the daily races, time trials, FIA races, etc. In the meantime, you've improved your skills and technique, and some of you probably swapped gamepad for a wheel.
Now I'm asking you to come back. Try setting a new time and report how much you have improved over the years and what helped you achieve it. You don't have to go full tryhard mode, but try to set a good time. If you're tired of the Sport mode and the current state of penalty system, and since the single player content is kinda lacking, it will give you something to do while waiting for GT 7.
Keep in mind that post patch tire physics actually make your cars slightly slower, but your new skills probably make up for that.
For me personally, online races and qualifying helped a lot, but the biggest improvement factor was playing the Lewis Hamilton DLC. It took me months of on and off play, but I pushed through that imaginary wall and reached new limits. I can drive faster and more confidently now that I know the tracks better, which braking technique to use and gears depending on the car, and where I can push more to get a better time.
Btw, I'm still playing on DualShock 4 gamepad, and I'm an A/S rated driver in Sport mode. I think I could reach A+ if I played more often.
So here are some of my times. I will update with new tracks as I go along:
