I have searched, hopefully I didn't miss this question existing already.

Is there a way to see the likelihood of rain before the race starts?

I've lost track of how many races are ruined for me because it starts raining and I'm running on RS tires.

I'll redo the race with intermediate tires only to have it not rain.

The sky during the beginning is not 100% reliable. I've had rain when it was sunny, and zero rain when it wad cloudy.

Getting tired of losing 5 lap races because I select the wrong tire.

It is frustrating pitting in only for the weather to change on your out lap unexpectedly. When you restart the races re youexiting the race back to the World Circiuts events screen for that track rather than simply restarting the race while inside the event?

As far as I'm aware, unless this has been patched, when you restart the race the weather patterns remain the same on the restart. So if the rais starts after 6 minutes the first itme, it'll start after 6 minutes on the restart.

If you actually leave the event and then enter it again the game will re-determine the weather pattern for the race and it'll change. At least that's how it's always seemed for me, but not played much recently so it could've changed in an update.

edit: I Said RS tyres be more slippy under wet condition, if rs tyres are more slidey or not than mediums or hard I 'm not sure.

I've never had this happen because I always zoom out weather radar before I pit, that shows how the next 2 laps gonna look like. Also in 99% of the cases intermediates are enough since the tracks dry very quickly once the rain is gone - you only really need wet tires to prevent aquaplaning when the rain is so bad the rain-o-meter goes dark-blue.

I do the same but I have still had it happen to me, you have a dark patch approaching but the moment you come out the pit it starts to clear or the wind changes direction and the heavy rain you were epecting to hit swing by. On some races the weather moves across the map super fast too. Granted it doesn't happen all that often and zooming out on the weather radar and checking it before pitting in is a very wise suggestion but it's not 100% as things can still change quickly.

I’ve had the map be all clear when entering the pits and have it be raining when exiting.

That! You must zoom out to the max the weather radar (100km radius in metric units settings) to get the most out of it... More zoom in doesn't help you at all, as just shows over the track, which means you only see the current weather, not what is approaching the track. This is specially relevant as weather is time accelerated.
Take La Sarthe/Le Mans, where you need almost a minute between pit entry, tires, fuel and pit exit, with time acceleration on weather it's natural that between entering and exiting, the weather changes.

Even in real world racing, with the best weather services available, there are times that just pitting a lap to late or too soon could be disastrous, just look Russian GP 2021...

I always have had the map at maximum distance.
Unfortunately the map doesnt help your before race tire decision. Just got burnt again the other day. Weather looked terrible, full of dark skies and clouds, so I fitted intermediate tires and spent the whole race in cloudy but no rain conditions and only came in second. It's the short 5 lap races where this really screws you.

I have made a spreadsheet that has all the events on it with requirements such as PP, tyres, car restrictions, no of laps, prize money etc. I use it to filter when looking for an event to do in a specific car and to log what car I used.
One of the columns is whether the race is dry or wet, as the fact that you have no idea until you start a race really annoys me.
Please see below an extract of spreadsheet showing the weather info.
I have kept it pretty basic, "wet" doesn't mean the whole race is wet, just that it will rain at some point.

I will post the completed spreadsheet if there is any interest?
I am currently updating it with a column to say whether or not there is fuel/tyre wear per race.

For the weather to be more realistic the scale of the map should have been reduced to something like 2km, not 100km. No where in the world would a storm 50km out reach you in 30 seconds!!.
The map for the most part is useless, given if your just starting a lap on most tracks you won't make it back to the pits before deluge hits.

GT5 had this super small indicator at the beginning of each race showing how wet the track was, so you could adjust your tire selection.

It's incredible how a 10+ year old game made by the same "indie" company that made GT7 has a better pre-race menu.

Theres the multipliers so you cant apply RL logic to weather behavior, the same goes for tyres..., which means people must pratice combos in order to understand and optimise the races...

The only thing PD could add its a forescast feature before the race starts so people can have an idea of weather conditions before the race starts, but during race radar its fine as it is, also theres the wet meter so people know how wet the track is and what tyre to use..., in RL with all the tech available teams and engineers still fail and those races are the most unpredictable and full of surprises.

I thought I remembered this too. Glad you said something. I miss that little indicator that gave you an idea what to expect.

This is by far the best GT to date, but not having an indication of what to expect weather wise is definitely an oversight.

Oklahoma: Here, hold my beer.

My best advice is just to run sports tires or intermediates. Throughout the various patches IM's have had varying levels of grip. They reduce PP as well, meaning you can increase the power or decrease the weight a bit.
