i want rain.. i want the entire feild fighting to get into the pits as quickly as possible to get the slicks off and some wet-weather's on, with a few staying out to see if its just a shower. then the rain stops over most of the track except for a small section.

now THATS an enduro i wouldnt go to sleep on

You will when you realise you can't get into the pit because the AI cars have successfully crashed into each other and blocked it.

I'd gladly trade 100 or so cars if PD could include changable weather and lighting!..... since GT1 I've wanted to be able to race any track when wet and or at night! Its unlikely to happen as it probably means re-rendering each track another 3-4 times!

does anyone know if GT3 /4P uses realtime lighting or vertex lighting? if its realtime then changeing from day to night is as easy as reduceing the strength of the light sources (sun) and incresing the strength for others (streetlights etc). vertex lighting would involve changing the textures to darker/brighter ones and with the ps2's limited memory capacity this could be a problem.

Well, we have changing shadows for the cars, but not for anything else, so what the hell would that be? I'm thinking vertex with some limited real time rendering. Shadows are mapped onto the track as a texture from all I've seen, look at Laguna or Deep Forest.

One of the coolest bits of information we got Sony to spill was that there will be real time weather effects (which affect your handling) and the ability to race any track during different times of day.

Then, what about this?
Since when did PSM have any credibility?

Yeah it's becoming more and more confirmed PSM are far from a reliable source.

Then again, I could be wrong and perhaps PD shares secrets only with Sony and PSM magazine subsequently benefits from knowledge no one else shares. We'll see.

you seem to have forgotten the size of the field.

with a 'few' cars braving it out on their dry tires, it doesn't exactly paint a picture of a traffic jam in the pits.

I remember KY saying there would be no dynamic weather effects.Meaning the weather will be set for whatever course you choose. Also there will be more wet tracks and for the first time snow will be implemented witch will be a great addition to the series.I'm sure PD will do this 'just right'.

Remember how crap the AI is, 2 cars are enough for them to jam up the pits

Hiya! :D :embarrassed: :lol

omg I forgot about snow! :embarrassed: Yea snow would be a very fun thing to add because it makes me think of Christmas and presentS!!! :embarrassed: I would luv to be your co-driver John! :embarrassed: I will be sure to direct you out of the course and to the MALL SO YOU CAN BUY ME TONS OF PRESENTS! :embarrassed: :embarrassed: :embarrassed:
Snow... then we can have a 'proper' AE86 vs. GT-FOUR drift video :D

From what I've seen, GT4 is filled with breathtaking scenery and graphics; unrivaled by any other racing game thus far (except maybe its predecesor). As for variable weather conditions; I'm not entirely sure. It would be a nice detail (might get slightly annoying), but I wouldn't get my hopes up about it. I've heard rumors about the sun moving across the sky in longer races, though, although I have yet to see video proof of this...

It's a shame that stuff like this STILL isn't on ps2 games, heck, I was playing le mans 24 again recently on my dreamcast, loads of cars on tracks, dynamic time and weather, skid marks, drivers in the cars etc, ok so it looks crap compared to GT4...but still...this games 3 years old :( GT4 should have this stuff!

Main problem in your arguement. PD have always build upon the looks of the game rather than such effects. I don't know if they consider them trivial by comparison or if they feel they might lose respect if they allow the graphical quality to drop. Perhaps they've painted themselves into a corner where people expect Matrix-esque levels of rendering from them and if they disappoint, it won't matter how many damage models or realistic rain effects they include, people won't be interested.

The graphics aren't all that suffer by comparison - just how realistic is Le Mans? Last time I played it, it was pretty damn arcadey. Tuning options were far more limited, and how are the grip levels handled? Are there different grip levels dependant on the level of rain, or simply a dry and wet setting for the track surface? We discussed the intricate nature of realistic rain effects.

Oh, and I also haven't seen a wet race yet this year in F1, nor at Le Mans, nor has it rained on a rally (prior to Greece slightly but not during), and so on, so maybe GT is just simulating reality more than any of us appreciate :D

You own a Dreamcast? Wow.

Then, what about this?

Time of day being selectable?

Oh god I want this game enough already.

If this was true for gt3 I would spend every minute of my time on deep forest reverse. :dopey:
