RRoDzaaah!
After Hypermart discontinuing their free hosting, I need webspace. I'm pretty fed up with 'free' hosting, so I'm willing to pay for a host. I'm looking for 100MB + of space, FTP, free domain registration, and at least 1GB of bandwidth. What hosts do you recommend? I'm kind of lost.

It depends what your price range is..? Like how much do you wanna pay monthly/yearly..

For a free host, try t35.com. It's pretty good.

ive been useing hostultra for a while, they claim "Unlimited" bandwith and space, but since my site is about 635kb i dont really care about bandwidth probs, its free too

Thanks for the replies everyone. 👍 I feel less lost now. :)

I've been reviewing lunarpages.com services. 800 MB, 40 GB transfer, FTP, with all the server software for $8 a month. It's the only site that had some sort of verification protection (BBBonline) that I have seen. They even have an active forum. Sounds good?

Well before you delvge in, send them an e-mail and if you get an automated reply followed by a human one, it should be alright. Following this ask other people who are currently being hosted by them.

If you feel comfortable go ahead, otherwise look around.

What software do you require? How much storage space and bandwidth do you require? What is your budget / month? Do you already have a domain name registered?

OK, here are things that you should consider:

How many servers are they running?
Where is the datacentre? (Out of town DCs are more secure)
What vendor is supplying the servers?
What is the contention ratio of sites to servers?
Do they offer the flexibility to move between hosting plans as your requirements change?
What technologies are they offering? I.e. PHP vs ASP, MySQL vs Access?
What OS are the servers running?
How many comms links do they have? (1 is not enough)
What is their backup policy?

If you're going to pay for your host, you might as well get serious about specifying your requirements, and only then make a decision.

This is my host, I'm very happy with them: 1&1 Internet
