weird windows 7 problem with taskbar

For some reason my taskbar just disapears on me somtimes when I exot out of a game. I have to do a reboot and it comes back but it's at the top of my screen and I have to drag it to the bottom. It seems random when this happens. It doesn't always happen with any certain game. The last time it did it was lastnight when 3d mark 11 was done running and it came back to the scores screen. My taskbar was gone when it was done.

I'm also having a problem where there are certain programs that when i go to minimize them they just X out and are gone. It doesn't happen with all programs but the ones it does happen with it happens everytime. This just started ahppening yesterday.

I'm thinking about a fresh windows install but I've never done one, and have an SSD with my OS and some other things on it, and an HDD for storage. i would like to do just the SSD but I don't know if any of the files that get deleted would effect the things I have on my HDD.

Any help with any of these problems would be great.

Have you looked through the taskbar settings and checked any settings which may be set differently? I don't know exactly what the problem could be, but I say you check that just in case.

I've tried making changes to it, but none of them stick. When I go back to check they are like they were before. I'll look and see what the settings are later and list them here. It's weird how it doesn't happen all the time, but it's starting to happen more and more now. It always pops back to the top of the screen after a reboot, and i can't figure out why when I minimiz certain things they just vanish and i have to restart them.
I'll post settings and maybe someone can figure it out.

I think I fixed it I set the taskbar to lock and the settings took this time. It hasn't done it since.

I keep having problems with my taskbar, nothing as bad as it disappearing and never coming back but sometimes it auto-hides, sometimes it doesn't, sometimes it decides to sit at the top of my screen, sometimes it won't show the left- and right-most parts, sometimes it just adds dividers (two columns of dots which can be moved left and right) of its own accord... Very strange. I've just gotten used to it though, and left it unlocked so it's easier to move back into place when it goes walkabout.

Oh and I had none of these problems until I got two extra monitors, so I imagine it's a bug in Nvidia Surround causing most of the trouble.

I went and locked mine and got it to accept the changes this time. Is hasn't ran off on me in a few days so hopefully everything is fine now.
