nope
Well, as the title says, my third copy of GT4 has been destroyed by my console. I am getting very annoyed with this, and i might even contact Sony about this.

I bought my slim PS2 (SCPH 70002) in a bundle with GT4 in may 2005. About a year later, it got stuck loading. I reste it and get the red screen of death when i put the game in. I took it out to find a huge chip in the middle of it. I was so mad i threw it at the wall and snapped it in half.

In about October 2006, my second copy dies of scratches, and i get a new one for christmas. That lasted about 9 months, before being scratched to death. (I will get a pic tomorrow)

I might get my ps2 looked at sometime as it does make a loud noise when i play it:

Listen to the noise it makes.

WARNING: One of the videos contains the Red Screen of death, watch at your own risk.

So you got a faulty PS2... you should've asked for a refund/exchange when you first experienced technical difficulties. I assume the warranty's gone now since it appears you've spent some time with it already.

I have a bottle of Maguire's Plastic polish I bought at NAPA. I regularly polish the scratches off game discs and CDs with excellent results. I've had to polish my son's Star Wars Battlefront II disc several times after he said it wouldn't load. No problems with GT4 yet.

I think it was already out of warranty, it started a bit over 2 years after i got it.

Also, my first and second copy died before it made the sounds, so that's not the problem.

So, what, the first copy of the game took a huge chip out of itself?

The first one was chipped while i was playing it, it happened about 15 months ago so i can't remember the details. My 3rd copy happened when i was playing it, i heard a grinding sound and it stopped loading. I took it out and there was a scratch ring deep enough to feel.

I will also note that my 3rd one still works a little bit, but i can't access GT Mode, only arcade mode. As such, i cannot load game and i have to take my memory card out every time i play. I can also only access the starter tracks and cars, so it's not much use. :(

No duh?

You stated that your PS2 wasn't the problem until the third disc. How, then, do you propose a "chip" appeared in the first game disc without the PS2's input? Tiny fairy disc miners?

Got any pictures of the 3rd disc yet?

Just a small side question: do you keep the disc in the machine or in its box when you're not playing it? It might not count for you, but I know so many people who don't look after their discs... by just leaving them lying around their room. PS2 discs are quite durable, but since GT4 is a dual-layer disc, it's more sensitive.

No, the PS2 didn't start making the wierd noise until the third disc, but it has always damaged the games.

G.T

I tried to take a picture with my phone, but it didn't come out. I might try to get a good pic later.

I keep the disc either in it's original case or a case which holds about 50 discs.

So... the question is...

Why did you keep buying new discs when the PS2 was obviously at fault? You said it started a year after you got it...

I think something's touching the disk while it's spinning. Stop feeding it more and figure out what it is. Try adjusting the lens down (I think you can do that, right?)

You know famine, those darn disc miners came and destroyed my first copy of GT3: A-spec. I just wish I had caught them before they flew out the window!:rolleyes:

But in all seriousness, it's probably something other than the eye that is scratching into the disc. (Faulty PS2 :( ) The reason I say this is because if the eye were scratching the disc the eye too would not be able to read discs and the copies would have failed quicker than you can say "Chuck Norris". I suggest making sure all the parts within the disc spinning area are level and that the PS2 is not moved when you are playing it. That's how my first copy of GT3: A-spec got chipped. (No it wasn't the fairy disc miners.)

I have had exactly 6 copies die + 1 Family Video GT3! 3 of mine, and 3 of theirs. The first one I got was the day it came out seprate. We also got our PS2 the day it came out, because we sold our N64 and PS1. I stopped working of scratches Christmas 2005. That exact day. The next one I got as a late Christmas present 4 days later. It died 5/17/06 of a loud noise after defeating Capri Rally Hard - It never showed me the prize car and never saved! The 3rd one I got 2 weeks ago from today. Last Wednesday after defeating the Whistler Ice Race Hard, I was so excited about finally defeating it after 6 hours of play... EEEEER! Red swirrly thing. (I screamed so loud the neighbor's dog outside yelped) Then I got a copy and rented it from FV, never worked. Their other copy, didn't work, and GT3 of theirs didn't work.
