What about the NORTH AMERICAN release date?

I know there are tons of threads, but the only thing I have seen is the JAPAN release date. How come he did not announce the N.A. release date? Does that mean we'll have to wait into summer and possibly fall of next year? Or does N.A. usually get it sooner?

I am so frustrated right now that Sony would not be smart enough to release GT5 next to Forza this Holiday. This is one of the strangest business moves, but in the long run it COULD pay off.

don't worry so much, the NA version will probably come out a couple of months (or less) after the Japanese version
And you're not worried? They usually release the us/eu versions 1 to 3 months after the Japanese....april-june 2010...it's terrible.

-An American and European release date will be announced soon. Probably in the next 3 days of TGS.

Who said the American and European release dates will be announced soon?
Remember that for Kazunori Yamauchi Gt5 releasing five months after GTPSP is soon.

No i'm not worried, if we've waited 6 years, whats 6 more months? And besides there are plenty of good games about to come out to satisfy everyone before GT5 comes out, no worries here :sly:

Okay, I hope you are right...considering that many of us fans have put $400 into a PS3, it would be nice to have at least a release date for N.A. and Europe. Why does Japan deserve a release date during the main briefing while N.A. and Europe were not even mentioned? I'll wait until the end of TGS and if there is no release date, I hope we see something in at least the next couple of weeks.

Let's hope it comes in 09 in NA. Seriously, that can be the "major announcement" and the "the next race is about to begin" line on the GTPSP credits make me believe on a 09 release still. Silly little me :dunce::dunce:

But wouldn't he have used his press conference time to make that big of announcement? I doubt he would announce it in any other portion of the show...right? I just don't see ANY hope for it coming this year....

There really is no excuse to not have a global release. Except for laziness that is. You're telling me that they can't crank out a worldwide release in 6 months after 5 years of development?

The game needs to be translated from Japanese. I guess the only way to do a worldwide release is to hold the Japanese version until the translation is done.

BTW I have read the Playstation blog and it does not say that the American and European release dates will be announced soon; it says that they will be announce in due course.

It does not say either that the Japanese release date is 31 March 2010 as said in another thread; it just mentions the March 2010 release window.

It's not like it's an rpg or an old school adventure game. Anyone fluent in english and japanese (there's loads of people who are and if none of them work for PD than that's ridiculous) can translate this game in 2 days easy!

Start translating GT5 at the end of development !?
This is so easy to do it at the same time of the development...
No ! This is not a translation issue.

LOL You must exaggerating with the "2 days easy".

My gosh, it must take an entire month to actually do it! That's how long it takes for them to update the online events in GT5P. Remember, before English speaking version came out, we got WEEKLY online updates!!!??

So, yeah, it takes a month to translate 15 or so online event descriptions :P

Yes ! This is the PD pace... :dopey:

US/EU release date soon to be announced, OK.
If it's 'soon' like we now know it, they will announce the US/EU release date in about 5 months.

Not at all... Anyone can "translate" track names and basic menu navigation text via google translator.. let alone a native speaker... Some people on this forum are really retarded if they think that translating what.... up to 500 words takes more than a couple of days...

^
The Playstation Blog does not say "soon" to start with. It say the American and European release dates will be announce in due course.

Does everyone realize what goes into translating a game the size of GT5?

Think about it...it's not just the language translation

*You have to translate car names to match that of the region (fairlady z vs. 350z)
*Anything in the game that has a description...whether its in the museum feature, or any of the tuning descriptions of the car parts...or anything in GTTV..or...well everything.
*Then there's of course the language of all the menus (which wouldn't take too long), but it's everything within the menus as well.

And there are probably things i'm not thinking of. Sure, I don't think it would take a month, but probably a lot more than 2 days. Just my 2 cents.

Mission/license/race discriptions/instructions will compose a pretty significant portion of the translation time -- consider that there were at least a few paragraphs for each license test, mission, race in GT IV. It adds up pretty quick. Certainly not a 2-day job, especially when you consider it will have to be read, edited, and re-read by a number of people before it's deemed "translated."

With that said though, it would be nice if they had some people working on it along side game development...

It would probably take a month to translate, check and fix errors and native language syntax, then code the text properly in the game and manuals so it looks slick. While this has to be done for a few dozen languages, they can all be done at the same time by SCE employees from each region. What isn't so obvious is setting up the internet infrastructure for millions of GT5 players, and that, I'm not too sure about, but it's probably two months or more.

Perhaps they'll give us a release date for some ambiguous point in time next year, and then release it under our noses. Just to throw off Turn10 or something, I don't know, whatever. I'm just going to kick back and wait for news.

From the history of GT launch since GT3, it is always 3 months after and almost 6-9 months after in PAL version (we might even see this still being demoed next E3 2010). I don't get it why they cannot do a global launch unlike developers here in the west. March could have been okay but another 6-9 months for the west, that hurts.
