Right hello all,

Playing with a G25, pretty much stock on n2s with the tuned cappuchino to start off with.

Been going roung eiger for hours on end and can pull off a few drifts but its simply by luck.

Main thing that happens for instance the first corner followed onto the second going eiger forward. I have tried feinting into the corner and i either understeer dramatically (think thats speed) or i initiate the drift but cant seem to hold it, i either spin out or flick back quickly and spin the other way.

The e-brake technique (which i think is the handbrake, no clutch before as i seen in that Japanese bloke vid) i tried but it just seems to start to slide then will either grip badly and drive round or spin.

I think its because im not doing somthing riht with the feathering and maybe correcting the drift.

From videos i have seen i see people with full on revs, correcting the drift with the steering then slightly feathering the throttle, but if i do that it just 360s a few times.

Ill try and get a video together if i can on a quick practice and hope to shed some light on my rubbishness.

Cheers in advance all.

EDIT:

Also with regards to the gearing, i have it at stock atm, but should i be altering the gears for max out acceleration and reduce top speed to force the wheels to spin easier.

Tried stock on n2s, and also some of the settings within the forum about toe in and outs, springs etc.

I have managed a few drifts be it very slightly and i know the kind of theory behind drifting.

I mean on some videos i have seen, people throw the car out, full power with the wheels facing the way you want to go, correct. I can do this in a manner on the straights or long bends and it works as i can feel the weight transfer in the wheel and lock back to control.

Think i just need to spend more time at the wheel and learning how the car moves, responds, etc and then come back and ask questions.

that's exactly what you need

maybe find out some more drift techniques and what certain actions can help you control or start your drift (hanbrake, braking, feathering the throttle, etc)

I wouldn't say practice makes perfect mainly cause practice doesn't get you anywhere, but drift often and HAVE FUN

good luck 👍

The way I see it after reading your description is you countersteer too much, to the point your front tires aren't straight coming out of the turn, or even in the turn. Your front tire angle should be the same as when you race. What causes the spin out is either too much throttle or not enough countersteering, or both. I would try learning to drift N1s to start, because they have less grip so spinning out or the car snapping back doesn't happen as often.

Thanks for the replys all.

Yeah i been practising loads over the last few days and i noticed that the hands on the wheel dont represent the turning angle of the car.

Giving the steering wheel a good tug seems to help loads, just seems like im not being agressive enough to catch the drifts on the counter steer.

less throttle then hammer it on the way out kidn of :)

Practice practice practise and it helps cheers all

Steering is set to simulation and physics is at pro.

I have been playing about over the weekend and i think i was going wrong because to start the drift i was bascially heading into the corner straight, hammering the throttle to get the back end round with no lateral movement meaning it was impossible to catch it as it was not going anywhere.

Started to feint into the corner giving lateral movement then applying the throttle to push round the corner but not to much to kink the rear out loads.

Managed to pull off some nice drifts and actually catch em on the way out.

Thanks all for the replies but its definatly more practice required here.

so I can drift with a DS2 decently but I can't drift at all with the DFP -_-. The thing isn't about my techs but more about the wheel problem I think. I know when to countersteer and how to control my throttle and everything but my DFP is really hard to turn after 90degree either direction. It doesn't look smooth like other users DFP from their videos. I have to use excessive force to turn the wheel after it reaches 90degree. I know that caused by the centerspring setting of the wheel because if I use this wheel on computer I can lower the centerspring and have smooth turning like real car. Is there anyway to adjust/disable this in GT5P or make it permanent on computer and still work on PS3? I used that USB software on Logitech website but the setting doesn't stay the same when i plug the wheel back in my ps3. Some help please >.<

You can try turning on power steering and lowering the force feeback. When i used the DFP I had Power Steering on and FFB at 3. Now that I have my G25 I turned it up at 10 again :)

One very Important thing about drifting.. you have to enjoy it, if its a chore to you, you will find it hard to be good. If you enjoy it keep practicing it takes more than a few hours TBH but its worth it maybee a few months if you enjoy it
