What are leaderboards? Every time I click on Leaderboards, I get the message that the Forza server is unavailable. I am connected to the internet. What else do I need? An Xbox Live account? I'm not interested in paying any monthly amount to MS!

Thanks in advance!

You have internet, but are you logged on to the internet through your Xbox? May be a dumb question but doesnt hurt to check. If you arent logged on with a Live account (get silver if you need, its free.) then you will not be able to see anything that requires it.

You need a Gold account to use online features (including leaderboards) unfortunately. But if you haven't seen them, there are multiple classes of cars and multiple sections of leaderboards. There's circuit, which includes the fastest times on every track (about 95 with every environment and variation) for classes F-X separately. There's drag and ovals for those same classes, drifting for each drivetrain, leaderboards for tuners, painters, photographers, and film makers (these are based on how many views/downloads you have on your storefront), and then there are also various rivals events. These rivals are either in stock or spec cars and everyone is put on the same playing field for the most part. You could say some rivals are more dependent on driving skill than tuning. Rivals are also updated monthly to keep things fresh, though it's only a few per month. Oh and there's also autocross events for certain classes. That's where you weave through the cone gates on a track as quickly as possible. Hope this helps!

Helpful and interesting reply, but actually you DON'T need gold (ie pay) membership to see the leaderboards, just the free silver. Possibly not the full set of variations, but certainly the basic one for each track and class. Obviously you must also be signed into your live account.

I said you need gold to USE the leaderboards, not view them. Silver allows you to see times, but you need gold to post times of your own.
