What are the rules on lowering where you are?

I was interested on the rules and regulations on lowering and muffler`s in different parts of the world as here we are experiancing a few new laws being imposed

Here in Michigan there is no "Lowering Law" There are so many potholes and we get alot of snow, so If your car is slammed, your pretty much laughed at, or your front clip is torn to peices; ive seen many. My 91 TSi is still at stock ride height, I dont want to go any lower because I like the ground clearance when rallying. I have a full 3" turbo back exaust and it is loud, not ricer fart loud but nice sounding throaty 4G63 sound. Ive NEVER been pulled over for it. The sound regulations in Michigan are by city. In Ann Arbor where I live it is 80 decimals. But police do not cary a decimal meter with them to test exausts, so if they do want to be a prick they can give you a fix-it ticket. There are plenty of loud cars running around so people dont get pulled over for it. Its nice to have a modefied car and not have to worry about anything like cali. We do not have yearly inspections in Michigan either for emissions. So we dont have to worry about venting to the atmosphere or any cats on our exausts. The cars are never checked for anything.

lucky, we have to have only the stock exausts that were supplyied from factory and we are not allowed any lower then 100mm, there is also talk of banning chromes as they cause a "disturbance" at nite cause they are "shiny" and other drivers get them in their eyes.

No laws at all. But the suspension has to follow some rules, I did a redneck-lowering of an old Volvo 260 (cutting the springs)I had. I got told at the yearly Car-inspection that the springs had to be tensed when the car was raised from the ground and my didn't, they were too short. I had to replace them.

Well if you spark you will be pulled over. Me and a buddy of mine were sparkin on I-75 around 3am. For those of you who don't know sparking is when you put a sheet of Titinium or other metal under your car or truck called skid plates. You lay the car or truck down and set the sheets on the ground via air bags. And you drive letting out sparks.

Any who we got pulled over and the cop said that my buddies truck was to low. He flipped the switches and the truck rose up. He told the cop "Is that better?" He got an altered suspension ticket along with vandalism. There pretty much fix it tickets.

Ya potholes here suck to but we mini truckers still slam our rides, meh were a bunch of morons anyways. Really who lowers a truck and better yet who lowers an SUV? Meh we don't even understand ourselves.

There are laws around me on exhaust, camaro get pulled over if there running headers or flowmaster 80's. The honda get pulled over just cause they sound like damn blenders and cops love to get em.

And yes I agree fix it tickets blow.

Here in Sydney its cant be more then 100mm (from the lowest point undernieth the car)from the ground and the exhurst noise can not be more then 91db

Anyone who drives on Sydney roads in a car with 100mm clearance is clinically insane.

It's funny cause it's true!

I think it's just no lower than a coke can. (That'd probably be 10cm)

I don't know about locally here, but I do know what the Lift Height maximum is here. It's 9 inches from stock, and that includes any type of lift kit and wheel/tire combo. It kind of sucks when my mudding vehicle was a 1977 Toyota Landcruiser with a 6" lift (susp.) 2" body lift and 40 inch tires. If you do the math, it's about 12 inches of lift total. I wonder if it was legal?

Yeah - that's the rule I remember - I think it's the one they use for the Tasmanian ferry - if you can't clear a Coke can, you can't get on to the ferry.

Well I guess the air suspension is different. Im aware that you can get pulled over for sparking. My friend has an 02 S-10 Xtreme with air bags on it and he does it all the time. The reason why they pull you over is because its destruction of public property and it is desruptive to other drivers, and could cause a fire. But if your driving it really low without sparking they wont pull you over. Sparking is a whole different thing than to just having a lowered car.

The only sparking Ive done is when I hit a yump in a road at 95mph and got all 4 off the ground... Came down pretty hard :D

The Blazer is lowish I'd say, I'm doing another 3inches but I don't want to be to low. I've sparked on railroad tracks and speed bumps before though. Not good. I keep beating up my ground effects, damn Michigan. Not to mention they act like a snow plow

You guys are luky then cause we get pulled over just for looking too low, then we get a pink sticker on the windscreen and a fine and we have to fix it before we can drive again, kinda like you fix it tickets

Rules here last time I checked are that no part of the car can be lower than the lowest part of any wheel.

So pretty much unless you have it dropped on stock wheels you're aight.

Dude how can any part of the car be lower than the wheels? wouldnt that put it half way into the ground? Oh wait just the wheel not the tire? fair enough. Here in Australia (Sydney) they pull you over for looking like you might have an infringement. I got pulled over in a stock Impreza Rx which is like practically a small family car and when I produced records and stuff the cop was all pissed of and tried to convince me that the tread on the tires wasnt high enough. I asked him how high it was meant to be and when he realised he didnt know he was forced to let me go, I then continued to smoke him at the next set of lights just to really piss him off.

Nova's,206's,Clio's,Saxo's and just about every other easy to insure car that can be riced up you mean? I'm afraid your dream Previa F1 wouldn't clear those speed bumps.

air suspension to jack it up for them bumps is all I need :D

[EDIT] and you forget the new citroen C2, the future ricer dream.

dude in TX it can't be 2 in. higher or lower then stock hieght. (it's not exactuly 2 in. but right around there) but no ones follows it. my brother has a drop of 4in in front and 5in in back, and thats what i'm gonna lower to. so i guess it really depends on your local law enforcers
