Hardcastle And McCormick S01E01-E02: "Rolling Thunder". Damn you @sirjim73 (and @lancia delta hf) for sending me down this rabbit hole.

I never saw the original Parent Trap and Family Affair was kinda before my time but Brian Keith plays Milt with a lot of humour and humanity and Daniel Hugh Kelly is also very likeable in the role of "Skid" Mark (a nickname which perhaps has slightly more unfortunate connotations today). And of course you can't go wrong with Post & Carpenter incidental music.

Stephen J. Cannell had a winning formula, which he of course milked to death in the seventies and eighties. The season one Coyote car was a Manta Montage (based around the McLaren M6GT) with a Porsche 914 engine (it says here) but poor Brian couldn't even get out of the low slung racer so they were forced to swap it for a DeLorean-based kit in later episodes.

Not sure whether I can bring myself to watch Street Hawk. They used to throw all sorts of crap into the early evening weekend slot of which Automan and Manimal were probably the cheesiest of the cheesiest. I remember the BBC complaints show Points Of View receiving at least one letter hoping and praying that the Simon McCorkindale show's repeat appearances would be "minimal".

The H&M pilot already shows promise and the formula of the show is set early.
Also, 1983 was a V good year for Faye Grant

The Sweeney S01E01: "Ringer". And, before you ask: No, I've never watched Life On Mars or Ashes To Ashes either but fancied some gritty Euston Films verisimilitude.

Dennis Waterman is a pretty good actor. If I make it through this series or get bored I may give some of his Minder a go as well, now that I finally have time to sit down and watch some TV*. Dot "June Brown" Cotton is also brilliant in this ep. Even Brian Blessed is a convincing heavy.

*My mum worked at Nestlé in the seventies and was sick of the taste of chocolate when she came home. In similar fashion, I used to have a job doing IT at a TV studio and the last thing I wanted to do was switch on the box (it was a box in those days) when I got in. Except maybe to play Forza Motorsport 4 and other racing games.

[EDIT] Armchair Cinema S01E02: "Regan" (1974). The pilot is a bit theatrical in its setting and doesn't have the 16mm grit of the ongoing series but so far it seems well worth a watch for completists.

Brian can be a decent actor when he reels in the overacting. The scene in Ringer in the back of the car when he's basically told that he's dead if they back out of the "blag", and afterwards when he tells Ian Hendry, he gives a very low key performance but you can feel his fear of those "above" and the resignation that they have to go ahead even though he is very reluctant to do so.

If you are watching on blu ray, Ringer is the only episode where the master has been lost so they had to make do with an inferior copy. The remastering on the rest of the episodes is superb, even with the limitations of 16mm.


Anyway, what I'm watching?
This over and over. Can't wait to see it!

I picked 68 but the Tour Of Duty episodes I saw used the Stones' "Paint It Black", not whatever this was. Rights issues?

Yes, music rights are often an issue for US releases. Fortunately, the UK dvd sets dont have that problem. 👍

I remember when I was a little kid going back to Italy to see family all those shows were on one after the other, they bring me back to more than just my childhood.

Another show I've been rewatching is BBC sitcom Game on with Samantha Janus. Makes me miss the 90s, well that and the disco biscuits.
