There is one on sale near my house. Bad thing is that it is from a some "x" dealer (He is not a very reliable one). I dont know about the mileage. Maybe that is why they are selling it for that price: $1800

<shrug> The early fiero wasn't that hot. Seems to me it was just a little 4-banger in it...

They had a number of problems with fires and stuff early on and I think '84 was the first year. (I may be wrong though...)

If you can find an '86 or '87 Fiero GT, it's worth snagging (almost at any price) 'cause it's due to be a collector. Good size V6, plenty of power, good looking.... Just little 2 seaters didn't have alot of appeal at the time.

My dad had an 86 fiero. The thing drove great, but the car was unreliable, and so was not worth keeping after the warranty wore off.

They are death traps to me. You have a real good chance of being trapped if the car crashes.

Plus I really don't remeber the Fiero real well. I was like 3 when the made them. But I has seen pics and those buggers are small!

The same can be said of almost any small car.

Anyway, yeah from what I've seen and read the older ones do have a few problems once in awhile. The last year or two was the best reliability wise, I think.

Anyway, I drove my sister's Fiero a while back, and I have to say its an extremely fun car to drive, especially if you're used to driving a big slow car.

Well not all little cars. I walked away from my Civic in ok condition. i got out just fine

A friend of mine has a '87 Fiero w/Ferrari Body Kit, and it looks awesome, and real too. Has real Ferrari wheels also. Anyways, it has a 4speed manual on a 3.1 v6. With that setup alone it was faster than every other damn car we could find to race us one weekend. From modded Civics, to modded old Lightnings. That was with just a stock v6. Since then, it's had a 75 shot(don't care much for that crap) of direct port nitrous installed, the motor's been rebuilt(and "beefed" up), K&N FIPK kit, and his Dad's currently working on a custom turbo for the damn thing. It's going to be insane.

I drove it when it had the stock v6, and I must say that thing hauled balls. The tach and speedo wasn't wired up at the time, so I hit rev-limiter about 40 times one day. Anyways, I was "cruising" the local strip, and I busted a u-turn, and floored it in first and got it about 80 degrees sideways. After I straightened it out my friend mentioned something about a cop. Apparently about 3 cars behind me when I did the u-turn was sitting a cop waiting to turn left, and when I "drifted" the turn, the nose of the car was pointing directly at the cop, and the cop didn't do a single thing. It was scary, but extremely funny.:P

an 84 fiero is an ok car... if you're paying like 600 bucks, especially if its a 4 banger. the 2.5L GM I4 was only 88hp, and it was a heavy mother for an I4, but 84 fieros in general are pretty crappy and not worth alot.

what you want is an 86 fiero, the 85 is ok but the 86 is ideal, be it in GT form with the 2.8L V6, or the lowly 2M4 2.5L I4 its a good car, the fiero is small and light so the I4 is decent for it.

the pontiac fiero has a steel spaceframe and underbody with plastic bodypanels, including the doors, and the roof, everything is plastic, except for the steel floor, and steel frame.

the 2.8L V6 made 140 HP and 165 lbft of torque, i believe, or maybe it was 135hp, who knows. its plenty for such a small car.

the 2.5L I4 made 88hp and probably about 120ish lbft of torque.

the I4 is adequate, but don't be willing to spend alot of money on a 4 banger fiero... only get one if you don't plan on racing it in any way, or you plan to do an engine swap. not that its a bad engine, its just not very powerful.

the 2.8L V6 was used in celebritys, GMC Jimmys, cavaliers, chevy S10s, and alot of other GM cars and trucks in the 80s, i believe the fiero had a different exhaust and intake manifold or something, its 5 hp more than the celebrity version @ either 140 or 135 hp.

the fiero 2M4 and 2M6 share the same body (the 2M4 is the I4 and the 2M6 is the V6). from in 1984 i believe there was only one nose, and i can't remember about the SE and GT models. in 1985 the fiero GT had the same body as the 2Ms with a different nose with an air dam, the GT only came with the V6. the SE i believe also had the GT nose, but i cant remember if there was a 2M4 SE or whatever, i doubt it. in 86 it was the same deal. in 87 the Fiero GT had the same GT nose as before but with a new rear body, the other 2Ms and SE remained the same, i believe the SE had the GT nose. in 88 (the last year of the fiero) the car got a completely redone suspension (previously the front end steering equipment was from the chevette and the rear transaxle stuff was from the front wheel drive chevy citation, like a toyota MR2 they simply moved the FWD drivetrain to the back 'o the car.) which gave the car much better handling. the 2M4, and the Formula (which i believe is the 2M6) kept basically the same body, but the lines were rounder. the SE, if it was still there, had the GT nose still... and the GT had the whole GT body like in 87... i can't remember if the 86 GT had the whole GT body, maybe it did.

anyway, the 88 fiero GT is the best, and i believe the rarest fiero is the 88 GT with T-Tops, as 88 was the only year for fiero T Tops, iirc.

enjoy fieros!

did he do an engine swap? because the fiero only came with the 2.5 I4 and the 2.8L V6, also the only manual it came with was a 5 speed, the auto was a 4 i believe.

sounds cool though.

Yes, it's a different engine. The previous owner installed it and the Ferrari kit. The 4 speed manual has a gated shifter too, it's really cool.

like previously stated the frame and underbody are steel.

some 84 fieros had a fire problem, something to do with a combination of not having a large enough oil reserve (3.5 quarts or something), hot exhaust pipes, and oil leaks. the cars were recalled, iirc, and the problem was fixed. besides, any fieros that were going to burn up are long fried.

I'd heard about a fire problem a while ago. There may also be a problem with the trunk or sun roof.

IT wouldn't be stolen. It might well be a lemon. But a 350 swap is easy and VERY powerful. You can get a rebuilt 350 for around 1000 and the stuff for the conversion is another 500.

I am waiting till I have enough cash to get a fiero and convert to a testerossa. We have a company in town that makes that body kit.
