So I picked up a 1st gen iPod touch from a co-worker for $50. That gives me an iPod video 80gig (like a 2nd or 3rd generation I have no idea exactly) to play with and see what I can get. After about 2 days on craigslist I get an email to send this guy a text because he wants to offer me something.

I texted him just now and he said that he has a brand new sony blu ray player worth about $300 that he wants to trade for my iPod. I mentioned that my iPod was only worth maybe $120 on a good day. He said that he just moved here and he is looking for certain items. IE ipod and computer. He lives like 15 minutes from my house and he still wants to trade.

I'm going to look into this just to see what happens, but something still seems fishy. What do you guys think? :nervous:

It's probably stolen or it doesn't work. Ask to try out the blu ray player before going through with the deal. I'd still be pretty wary of the deal though.

Thats what I figured.....I have been texting him for like an hour now. He legitimately wants my iPod, hes asking about cords, and headphones, but I'm still not believing that the blu ray player isnt hot, or that it works.

Be on the safe side. Avoid. Why does he want to trade a $300 Blu Ray player for an iPod that at best is only worth $120? If something sounds too good to be true, then it always is. And another thing, you should never give away your phone number. You should only communicate through email.

I think I'm gonna go with it and see what happens. We are going to meet face to face. Whats the worst that could happen? If the blu ray player is shoddy, or something doesnt seem right I wont do the trade. I think the only way I could possibly be scammed is if the player worked for just long enough for me to test it, then stopped, or if the guy is huge and beats me up and takes my ipod?

He'd be selling the player if he wanted an iPod and the player was legit. It may be stolen not just broken as mentioned before, avoid.

If there's even the slightest indication that something isn't right, which there is, don't do it.

Walk away, Boz.

It does seem like a scam, but there are certain parts that make it feel legit. So now I need an excuse to tell him no I guess.

I have a bridge that I want to sell you too. Cut and run, fast. Do you want to explain to 100,000 members how you were scammed? You've been warned in these posts.

If it's too good to be true, it most likely is. Whenever you are going to make any deal, just think, "what's in it for him"? Because it's definitely not a good deal for him to be trading a 300 dollar Blu Ray player for a 120 dollar iPod.
