So I'm bored at work, and I'm just thinking about the terms used, like Simcade and the like.
Using the supplied annoying meta-genres and descriptions, where do you put GT-Sport?

Beware, I'm going to use the word Sim a lot.

Sim.

It's a sim, because its purpose is to simulate what driving a car is.

"simcade" is a stupid word. There are arcade games who don't bother with physics or ffb and there are simulators. Then there are great sims and not so good sims. GT Sport is a sim but a very limited one.

Can we abolish the word 'Simcade'? It's stupid and makes no sense.

This. Games like Forza Motorsport and Gran Turismo were developed with the idea of being racing simulators, so they should be called just that. Meanwhile, titles with greater emphasis on real life driving characteristics (Assetto Corsa and Project CARS for instance) should be seen as advanced or hardcore simulators.

I'd rather this was the case, it fits with reality better. I hate the word Simcade too.

None of the above.

GT is a semi-realistic driving game which caters for a wide audience. It is what it is and none the worse for it.

At the end of the day anything that depicts a vehicle moving around on a track is a simulation of sorts.

Don't like Simcade? Then use Arculation instead. ;)

As stated by above post ^^ GTS caters to a wide audience...an audience that mostly consists of your "average Joes" (that's to say we are not all professional racers) who I'd assume love cars and racing. Because of said audience, I think GTS is a proper racing sim and it is great for it. Could it benefit from some touches that would make it a bit more realistic, absolutely. But does it need to be a full on professional grade hardcore racing sim, I don't think so.

"Simcade" is the sort of term crafted by the folks that write 4000-word blog posts about how the tire model of [insert game they don't get financial compensation from] is crap. It's condescending and back-handed; it implies the game is somehow like LA Rush or something because it doesn't simulate as much as [insert other game]. It's a flawed comparison, since the only yardstick should be reality, not another game, and the genre evolves all the time.

GT1 was a sim when it released, but it feels primitive now. That doesn't mean it loses the sim status. If the goal is to simulate real life, and it does that, then the title is a sim. GT Sport certainly isn't perfect in the physics department, but nothing is.

I always thought Gran Turismo was a driving sim? And that was the reason why we have so many street cars in GT? So i'm afraid i can't wote :embarrassed::).
But the new sound on all cars etc, i will say GT is right up there with Project Cars 1-2 and Assetto Corsa when it comes to realism and if somebody is wondering, yes i have played them all :D.
